Childhood
Painful Memories
We all have embarrassing moments and fun/hysterical moments to share. What's mine, well let me tell you! It all started on a nice day. I was a cute 5 year old little girl. I had beautiful curls, a pink shirt as I remember and some shorts. Of course it was a fine day because I lived in sunny Florida. My mom handed me a granola bar and I took the leash for my dog that we hung on the wall off and clicked it on to my dog's collar. My dog was a cute white fluffy mix. I'm not sure what breed it was because I never asked my parents when I was little. But my cute but very disobedient dog's name was Snowflake, and I loved her so very much.

This is such a deep memory I have to relive. I am so glad that I don't go to that school anymore, it was such a toxic environment for me. Since the school was private, teachers got away with so much.

The Killer Fart Sometimes things happen that leaves you searching for answers, but answers are harder to find than questions.

Back when I was a little kid, and we're talking twenty some-odd years ago, I went to daycare after school. It was fairly normal, as far as daycares go. After school, I would be accompanied by other children and a teacher as we walked around the corner to the other school where daycare was hosted. This also happened pretty much immediately after the bell rang, as well, which meant we needed to form a line in the hallway quickly and wait for a teacher. Only then could we leave the building.

Achievement is subjective. Many people are satisfied with less, they just think they need more. Although expectations of me have always been depressingly minimal, people have always felt they had a stake in my life, I suppose.

So, we all believe strange things we’re told as a kid. Sometimes, we have a different understanding of what things mean, or we believe in silly fables, myths, and tales. Some of these things you might think “hey, I thought that too!” But for the most part, I’d be surprised if you did. So here are a few of the strange things I believed when I was a kid. After you read them, I’m sure you’re going to think: jeez, what a strange kid!

I guess you come to expect certain things of yourself and are astounded when things don't go the way you had planned it in your head. My first embarrassing story coincides with the time I watched my first horror movie.

I didn’t love myself for a very long time. This went way back to middle school as a young Black girl trying to figure out who she was and how to fit into this world. I never really wasn’t too concerned with my looks in elementary school because a lot of kids weren’t thinking about what they had on, what they looked like or how their hair looked. It was all about seeing their friends and recess. LOL. At least for some I guess. Those were the good old days where we didn’t have to worry about responsibilities or peer pressure. As kids, our job was to just live and focus on being a kid!

The music was loud in the background. But my mind wasn’t on the party. The school was throwing their annual mentor-mentee bash. There were bounce houses, face paint, dunk tank, and much more. It was the most exciting event for those in the junior high.

Ever since I can remember, I have always been in touch with my sexuality. I call the Whitney of my youth a “sexy baby”. I used to roll up my shorts and tie up my shirts. I wanted to wear bikinis as a toddler, and not just for swimming. It wasn’t what I saw on TV or any behavior mimicked by my mom or my aunts; I just wanted to be sexy before I actually understood what it meant.

I could tell you about all the clothes I have found through out the years of thrifting. The pieces that bring me most joy and fulfill an empowering walk within that day. I could also walk through my room remembering the stories behind each random thing, because quite frankly I don’t remember where I get somethings, unless I really think about it. Today I want to take you back to a few months ago when I seemed to binge purchase, things that seemly match a file in my brain.

The Big Lie I was eleven and good at math so I got my first paying job, at Kona Lanes, score keeping for adult bowling leagues on Saturday mornings. My penmanship was excellent so I had quite a few teams bidding for my services. My parents were pleased I’d found something to do during the summer but the yard maintenance fell on Matt which just pissed him off. He was better in math than I was but his handwriting looked like cave drawings.
