Soon, You’ll Be Taken Away From Your Comfort Zone

Whether we do it ourselves or not, it will happen

Nature wants to ensure Her survival. That’s why She keeps expanding and multiplying. Nature uses whatever feels pleasant as a contributing force to Her survival goal, while She avoids whatever feels unpleasant, because it may be a threat to that very purpose.

This is how habits are formed. Whenever there is pleasant feedback, we stick to the pattern. Whenever there is unpleasant feedback, we avoid it.

Whether we move towards something or whether we avoid it, both become habits, both ensure survival.

By sticking to our habits, we believe that we are secure. By avoiding what’s painful or by moving towards what’s pleasant, we keep building a web of loops — one from within which we function for entire lifetimes.

While some of our habits are physical/obvious, as an example, going to the gym feels good and is good, therefore with enough time — we stick with it — the remaining, bigger part of our habits are not so obvious.

For instance, most of us move towards the objects of our desires. Most of the time our desires are just a projection, not a fact. The same can be said about what we avoid.

Living means going through different experiences. We’re wiser today than a time when we experienced unpleasant situations — and so, we developed some fears around them.

Because we weren’t prepared enough to properly deal with those unpleasant experiences, we formed an exaggerated memory about them — we gave them more credit than they deserved.

And so, while we may look pretty damn strong today, deep inside of us we still carry a terrified child, one that hides and avoids anything related to those past and unpleasant experiences.

This avoidance and attraction dynamic, while internal/psychological is also a habit.

And most of the time, we stick to what’s familiar because of our inner and terrified child. That’s where our role as an adult kicks in, the role to nurture the child, hold her hand and guide her through her fears.

When born on Earth, we inherit everything our ancestors went through. Don’t think too far, look at your main thoughts and feelings, the different patterns within you, how you react to different events, and so on — this is their legacy — the ‘default settings’ of every human being.

We inherit their fears about tomorrow, their fear of death, of illnesses. Their challenges with life, their pain, the feeling of loneliness, of having been abandoned. The resistance to change, and therefore the sticking to what feels familiar — even if that means living the same life we hate until our last breathe.

We also get their learned patterns/habits. We get their understanding about social structure, we see that life is more enjoyable with others, that moving alone gets us there faster but moving together gets us further. We also feel the urge to merge, to be in groups, to find a romantic partner. And so on.

I could insert all kinds of links to some credible journals so that you get the point but, I would only reinforce the dependency pattern that we also inherit — the one that makes us dependent on authorities, and therefore cancels our thinking abilities. The same pattern that makes us look outside ourselves for answers when all we have to do is start looking more within ourselves, and realize that we’re the product of so many lives that came before us — that you, yes you, are the product of humanity’s history.

We have the choice.

While it’s easier to keep doing what we’ve always done — deep inside we just want the security based on past experiences — feeling the drive to act like we always did doesn’t have to make us forget that we still have the choice to do things differently.

Times have changed.

And we’ve been living like this for too long. We’ve been sticking to our old ways for too long, things are changing and unless we learn to move with life’s new rhythm — we’ll keep being unhappy, distracted, hopeless and we’ll lose touch with our essence.

This is what we see today. There are exceptions and that’s great. People are opening their eyes. But the numbers don’t lie. The majority of people are still holding on to the past too tightly. They know that they have to let go. But the fear of the unknown, which is also a ‘blessing’ from our ancestors — is strong too.

Being a human is not simple, but it’s also great.

We have a rare opportunity. The opportunity to choose.

Yes, our drive to stick with the past is pretty strong, magnetizing, and compelling — the drive to keep doing what we’ve always done, to prefer our comfort zone over our craving for expansion, to keep doing what we’re biologically programmed to do and so on — but our ability to choose can be even stronger. We just have to give it a chance.

Sometimes, you just have to try, to jump into the unknown.

Someday, we’ll have to leave home. Whether we do it now, or whether we wait for Mother Earth to do it for us by giving Her back the body she lent us — we’ll all have to leave what feels familiar, in order for us to remember once again, that we always had the choice — the choice to move freely and keep exploring our infinite possibilities.
