Target adventure

It all started when Joseph got a car. We were 16 years old and that was one of the coolest things that you could have. No more waiting for our parents to take us to meet our friends at the movie theater on Friday night. We were free and it was glorious. This was the first weekend that he had his car and we made plans. Him and I had a flirtation but it never progressed to anything else he was one of my best friends since he moved here from Michigan.

We lived in South Carolina so it was hot outside now 90% of the time.I lived with my grandparents for a couple years so I told them I was going out and they already knew about Joseph and everything. Adrienne who is still to this day we are best friends and I had another good friend Skyler. We all planned to go see the new Sherlock Holmes movie. As usual on Fridays there was this place called Cheeburger Cheeburger that we would go and get a basket of fries and milkshakes. Brownie batter and birthday cake combined was my favorite we would laugh and talk about boys and kids at school.

The issue of the evening was Skyler‘s parents; they didn’t want her in the car with another 16 year old. Saying they didn’t trust someone so young to be driving her around. She was the only one that had to meet us at the movie theater. Her younger sister Shannon who went off to hang out with her boyfriend Miguel. So while we hung out we went to cheeseburger after that we decided we didn’t want to go see a movie like we did every other week. We wanted to taste our freedom and go somewhere because we were young and free and we just wanted to escape. Running to the parking lot and then hop in Joseph’s car and we go to Target.

Running around the store Skyler gets in a buggy and I push her all around and we go and find these random hats to put on. Adrienne‘s boyfriend took a picture of us it was an amazing time until Skyler‘s dad calls. He then says that he is 40 minutes early to pick her up . We’re freaking she has to be at the movie theater because he’s already waiting with us 15 - 20 mins away.

All of us know that she’s not supposed to be out with us so we run out of Target. Leaping in Joseph’s car and start going down the main road which has 10 lights to get from there to the movie theater. So of course we got stopped by every single one. Speeding we make it back to the movie Theater in half the time.

Parking the back and then we jump out of his truck and all start running because we were coming in from the side. We told her dad to pull up front so that that’s where the movie got let out we could run from that direction. We told her dad that we just got done with the movie and that it was done late and he believed us. Her parents never got to know about our adventure and this day I still never seen that Sherlock Holmes movie but I’ll always remember that memory fondly.

It’s sad because I don’t talk to any of them anymore. Adrienne is my only friend left and this memory is over 10 years old and yet it feels like it was just yesterday. My life was changed forever because I haven’t had friendships like that since. When you’re young you don’t think about time and when you’re older that’s all you think about is time that you had time that you’ve wasted time that was there and time that wasn’t. If I can go back and tell myself to enjoy time a little bit longer who knows how many more fun memories I would’ve had.
