Who's the real Monster?
"You're right, I don't understand". Shaking my head I said "I don't understand why you made that call seconds after me waking up. I don't understand why you would betrayed your barely dead sister like that. I don't understand why you didn't tell me to run. Instead you took one look at me and decided that I was a threat that needed to be taken care of. I also don't understand why you or someone you work for took the one thing that could give me what I've always wanted in life away."

Firebug: Ch. 35 - Phoenix
This was bad. Roman was outnumbered a hundred to one against a roomful of agitated, high-strung Pyros, and nowhere near the exit. His instincts battled it out tooth and claw within him, one set screaming at him to fight and the other to run. As a result, he was deadlocked in place. The room was only getting hotter by the second, and the rain falling heavier.

The Hoarder
"I've brought my mum," Michael said and managed to look sheepish as he said it. Of all the replies that Kendal was expecting, this was not one he had contemplated. He was unable to hide his surprise, a talent which had never previously left him, his face showing his utter shock at Michael's statement.

The Hoarder
Kendal was glad he'd got the barbed wire although it was a bastard to work with. Luckily, he had some thick leather gloves just for the purpose, picked up from a house sale in Barnsley after a particularly fraught encounter with an arms' dealer in 1976. He'd come across the house sale on the way home after a long debrief, the sign for it stuck to a lamp-post, a messy creation written on the back of an old cereal box which seemed oddly charming and parochial after the bloodiness of what he had just experienced. The craving for something pedestrian and domestic and normal drew him in. It had proved a levelling distraction, sorting through the things left behind by someone who'd had a pretty standard existence. Kendal had felt envious of the simplicity of a life lived represented in the items remaining and for sale to others, and it had grounded him on a day when that's what he needed.

The Hoarder
Michael was starting to feel unsettled again. To all appearances, Mr. McIntyre seemed like a genuinely sane old man but this talk of survival was like something off Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends . Louis was always finding extremists to interview and a lot of the time, he exposed them as paranoid, scared individuals with narrow views who believed the world was against them. But Mr. McIntyre was a different kettle of fish. Could he actually be coming from a place of knowledge as a result of his previous 'career'? Michael didn't know what to think. What if that was all bullshit? He knew that hoarders were a wily bunch, desperate to hold on to their stuff no matter what. Perhaps Mr. McIntyre, with his super spy story, was just taking this to the next level!
