The Night Rider
A Tale Inspired by “Forest Priest” (Boschpriester), 1941, by Anton Pieck.

Introduction
There are no challenges that inspire me at this moment in time, so I dip into my saved images from the wonderful Enchanted Booklet on Facebook:
The music is "Midnight Rider" by Greg Allman
The Night Rider
There are dark clouds across the face of the moon, but the moon will not be hidden. It shines, lighting up the hills and the black river as the water flows, wearing away the submerged rocks ever so slowly, but one day they will be gone, becoming sand and mud on the riverbed, but the river will still flow.
Midnight is here, and the rider on his horse is on his way to a rendezvous. No one knows where he is going or where he came from. Even he may be ignorant of his situation, but he has spoken to no one; he never does.
People know him; they believe it is a man, but it could be a woman. The rider rides along the river path once the church bell strikes midnight. Some say the rider delivers secrets and souls to the devil; others say the rider saves souls and talks to angels.
No one will talk to the rider in case they are told something they would not wish to know.
Tonight the rider will ride again.
No one knows why or where.
