Movie Stats: Mary Poppins directed by Robert Stevenson. Released in the year 1964.

With everything done I decided to watch tv. Flipping through the shows, dramas and channels. I finally stopped on a channel where the movie was about to start. I heard about it a lot but never got the time to sit down and watch.

Finally I got the chance today so I sat down watching the movie let me share my thoughts on it.

The movie follows the story of a mysterious magical nanny going by the name of Mary Poppins. We see how she descends the sky arriving on the doorstep of the Banks family and is readily appointed as the nanny. And how this Nanny adds joy, wonder and adventure into their lives.

The iconic Mary Poppins character is a  perfect blend of prim and proper manners with a mischievous streak. The songs in the movie are timeless classics that have become ingrained in popular culture.

There is a whimsical charm in this movie that draws the viewer into the adventures the Mary Poppins takes. The movie also delves into the deeper themes of family, love, power laughter and the joy in overcoming life's challenges.

This classic movie is bound to enchant viewers of all ages with its magical storytelling, memorable songs and heartwarming messages.

It has definitely stood the test of time. Mary Poppins is a character with just the right blend of sternness and warmth.

The iconic song 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' is very catchy and memorable. It keeps replaying over and over in your head long after you have finished watching the movie.

This movie is a beloved classic but there are some points in the movie that could have been much better;

One of the point that is a major source of my frustration is the portrayal of traditional gender roles and expectations - with Mary Poppins serving as the nurturing caregiver and Mr. Banks being the breadwinner. This portrayal is not reflective of contemporary values regarding gender equality.

A second point which can be a major sore point for most is the lack of colored individuals. The place that is being portrayed in the movie in reality is rich in races and ethnicity but in the movie only the white people are shown. This can be considered as a racist view.

Another potential negative in the movie is the under-development of the supporting characters causing the reader to feel lack of emotional impact in certain scenes and interactions.

Me mentioning these negatives is not to deter you from viewing it but to appreciate the movie's strengths while also acknowledging its shortcomings.

Despite all this 'Mary Poppins' is a delightful and enchanting film that captures the hearts of its viewer even  decades after its initial release.

I find the story of Mary Poppins filled imagination, wonder, importance of family and importance of finding joy in everyday moments of life. Its definitely a family movie with its timeless appeal and heartwarming messages.

    I think the most important thing to consider in Mary Poppins is that she made a difference in the lives of those she touched. She wasn't afraid to hang out with a chimney sweeper. She taught responsibility to children, but she had a marvelous way of bringing hope and joy to their lives, too. I think all people in 1964 needed to believe in a Mary Poppins, especially those of color and of disparate social or gender equalities. Your story could also apply to Nanny McPhee in 2006.
