Love does not have to have

In our culture that often celebrates narratives of love that are full of ownership and claims, the idea that love doesn't have to be owned is often seen as a foreign or even strange concept. However, if we dig deeper, we will find old wisdom that says that true love is actually about giving freedom, not enslaving.

One common misconception about love is that we have to have the person we love. This is reflected in our everyday language, in popular songs, and in the romantic stories we consume. However, this view narrows the meaning of love and often results in unhealthy relationships.

True love does not force or bind. Instead, it provides space for both parties to grow and develop as individuals. It understands that each person is an independent individual, not ours to own or control. True love gives partners the freedom to be their true selves without fear of losing that love.

Why do we feel the need to have love? One of them may be due to fear of loss or insecurity. However, if we understand that true love is not like that, we can let go of the need for possession and build stronger, more sustainable relationships.

When we free ourselves from the need for ownership in love, we also free those we love. We no longer treat them as objects we own, but as individuals we respect and love. In openness and honesty, we can build relationships based on mutual respect and support, not control and neediness.

Love that doesn't have to be had also opens the door to a wider range of relationships. This allows us to love more than one person, whether in a romantic or non-romantic context. It frees us from conventional boundaries of how relationships should form, and allows us to explore different forms of connection and love.

So, let's remember that true love does not require possession. Instead, it is about giving and receiving sincerely, without expecting anything in return or ownership. By understanding and practicing this concept, we can build stronger, more sustainable, and more meaningful relationships.
