Confessions of a Blooming Book Girl

Booktok has gotten me hooked

By Flying AcePublished about a month ago 5 min read

Let me start at the beginning....sort of. I have enjoyed watching romantic movies but I have found more joy in reading the book that inspired the movie. What I have begun to realize is that there's a part of me that wishes that some of the characters that exist and live within those pages of those books, actually existed. Let me delve further into some of my favorite books and characters that I may or may not confess to liking to anyone, ever, some of them at least.

Behold, the one that started it all, "The Notebook", I have not yet had the chance to finish reading the book, but the movie was so beautiful. I hope that one day I can finish the book. However, with the information that I did read, I do have to say that I like Noah Calhoun very much. I wasn't a big fan of Ryan Gosling playing his character, as I don't particularly find him attractive. Continuing, I adored Noah and the fact that he built the house that Allie had always wanted. When I saw the house in the movie, I also fell in love with it. Although I don't recommend people to get into dangerous situations to impress the other gender, I did admire the fact that he did get on the Ferris wheel to get Allie to go out with him. I think that I would've given him a chance for two reasons, first I wouldn't want his death and/or injury to occur because of me, and secondly, no one has done something like that or anything to get my attention before so yeah I'd give him a chance. So I would say that Noah was probably a book crush not necessarily my "book boyfriend".

The next one on the list is the movie version because I haven't been able to read the book yet. Now this book's main love interest, I would place as "book boyfriend" and he kind of made me start piquing my interest in cowboys. Behold, "The Longest Ride". Oh, boy. A quick backstory first. When I was growing up my dad was a big fan of Clint Eastwood and his spaghetti westerns, so I have become very familiar with them. Our friends and family would even state that my dad looked like Clint Eastwood. So when I saw "The Longest Ride" and saw that Scott Eastwood was playing as the main love interest, oh boy. It has become one of my top romantic films/books. I fell in love with the movie and so I know the book will be very good. It also helps that Scott Eastwood has made the cut for good-looking men.

Alright, on to the next one. This one is part of a famous series, I had only begun to hear rumors of it through Tiktok, and the Booktok girls going nuts for it. Now entering the stage is no other than "A Court of Thorns and Roses". Omg. this book was really good. It was probably the second-fastest book that I've ever finished. I thought this was a very good book, and as it seems I'll have to finish the series to figure out why the book community hates the main love interest, Tamlin. According to Tiktok, I have discovered that while he looks like a good man and boyfriend, in the later books the true Tamlin appears. I am interested in Rhysand though. He is a character that lurks in the shadows and may have a bigger role to play later on in the series. This series is definitely on my to-be-read list. I enjoyed learning about the world of "A Court of Thorns and Roses". I also wondered which court I would be a part of or would like to be a part of.

I shall introduce the morally gray character that thanks to the book community, I just realized that he set the stage for the future morally gray characters that would later be introduced into my life. I have always liked "Phantom of the Opera" because the music has always been amazing. I love the organ and the voice of the Phantom, specifically the Gerard Butler Phantom. My favorite song is "Music of the Night". I have read the book and it was pretty good too. So he set the stage for none other than Zade Meadows to enter my life.

In case you don't know about Zade Meadows, he appears in a two-book series called, "Haunting Adelaide" and "Hunting Adelaide". Now I don't agree with everything that Zade does within the books but I do admire the fact that he is obsessed with Adelaide. There is a line that you cross with obsession that I think is too far and at times, he does cross that line. Something is fascinating in both books and history about men who are willing to burn the world for the one that they love. I don't necessarily know how I would feel about that notion but at least with that knowledge, you know that they will not cheat on you and will remain loyal to you. Which sadly in this day and age seems to be a big issue in the realm of dating. One of my favorite lines that Zade says to Adelaide is when she inquires about the most basic information about him which is his birthday and his last name. This man responded by saying "Meadows baby, our last name is Meadows." I was blown away by the confidence that he possessed, making him believe and trust that Adelaide would choose him. It would be kind of refreshing to see men with this type of confidence, but I understand it is difficult to do so because you're throwing yourself out there and being vulnerable, and there's the possibility of rejection. I would probably give Zade a chance because of that confidence. These two books were probably the fastest books I have ever finished.

Finishing this little piece up, here's to more beautiful love stories and recommendations from the book community. I have also started reading the Bridgerton books and by golly, they better hurry up with the second half of season three. Please don't judge me for reading a dark romance, like I said I don't agree with everything in the book but I still believe it is a beautiful story. It is nice to read about the beautiful love stories and the ones with sad endings. So thank you to the authors for the beautiful love stories that have happy endings, the love stories where two broken people can love each other and pick up each other's broken pieces, for the enemies to lovers, and for the very rare love stories that bloom from friendship. Thank you for allowing us to experience the passion, frustrations, and slow burns. Thank you for inspiring us and allowing us to still have hope that we can find love.
