Roadside Picnic: 200 Word Reviews #29
Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky is like reading the cut content from a far better book. The premise was ground breaking for the time: Aliens visit earth, but ignore us, and leave artefacts behind in The Zone. The plot follows Red, a stalker, who makes his living illegally venturing into The Zone and selling what he finds there. I know this sounds awesome, but most of the time he’s actually just drinking and all the interesting events happens in the very last few pages. Even then I couldn’t quite work out what the point was.

Mit Katze durch die Nacht by Yoko Heiligers is a new release book in 2026 - specifically, it's a picture book. Picture books are a very entertaining way to consume art in 2026 - it shows conceptually how children and adults think about art and words and how they interact with each other. "Mit Katze durch die Nacht" is no different. The cat is a black and white creature which makes the cat pop in both yellow washed scenes where the lights of street- or window-lights cut up the darkness or when the cat is in pitch dark. It becomes, in this way, exactly the sort of book that someone looking to entertain children would have a great time with.

Fire & Blood is a Brillant and Gritty Tale of the Rise and Downfall of the Targaryen Bloodline
Fire & Blood is probably one of the best medieval/fantasy novels in history. This entire book goes over the Targaryen family from Game of Thrones, and it takes place 300 years before that show. It's so interesting to learn about a family that was once very powerful and were the first ones to rule the Seven Kingdoms for many years.

The Fire and Blood novel goes over the entire history of the Targaryen family, and out of all of the deathly fates of the family members, the worst one was Aerea Targaryen. This princess had been going through so much among her family. She was born during one of the best periods during Targaryen rule with the Iron Throne. Jaehaerys Targaryen was the new ruler for the Iron Throne, and he was considered to be one of the best kings in Westeros history. He had chosen to marry his sister to keep the bloodline pure, and she gave birth to his daughter, that he had chosen for the Iron Throne.

Penelope Was the Real Hero of “The Odyssey” All Along. Top Story - August 2026.
Mention Homer’s Odyssey , and the first name that comes to mind is undoubtedly Odysseus. Hard to blame a fellow Greek for that, seeing how he lends his name to the title. After all, this is a hero of warring and wandering - a soldier who survived the Trojan War, fought off storms at sea, and even outsmarted gods and mythical creatures on his way home. It took him ten long years to get back to his homeland of Ithaca, but he finally made it.
