"More than a beauty brand"... it’s an all too familiar saying in the beauty industry.... but we are different and we stand for so much more than providing that perfect shade of lipstick. Our customers come first and always will. We can confidently say that we are building a true community, not just one based on people who buy our products. Our customers relate with what we have to say and also want to contribute to the conversation whatever that conversation may be at that time. SaltyGirl Beauty is more than just a beauty brand, it's a community that we are so passionate about building.

In 2015, Sarah Kelly, pictured top right, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer, at 36 years old and 32 weeks pregnant. When something like this happens, it really turns your world upside down. During this time, she and her sister Leah Robert, pictured top left, who serendipitously is an oncology nurse by trade, started diving into the food they ate and the products they put on their bodies. It truly was a catalyst for change in both of their lives.

Our skin is our largest organ, and everything we put onto our bodies is absorbed into our bloodstream and organs, which is what led Leah and Sarah to become incredibly passionate about doing the research and understanding the ingredients our bodies consume daily. It was a learning process, but something that paved the way to what would become SaltyGirl Beauty, a dream that soon became a reality.

While going through chemotherapy, Sarah lost all of her hair. When this happened, she felt like she lost something that made her feel beautiful and confident. As a way to endure this emotional hardship, on top of her physical one, she discovered the power that beautiful scarves and lipsticks had in helping her rediscover her groove, confidence and salty-ness. This, combined with research the sisters had been doing, the idea for SaltyGirl Beauty was born. Sarah and Leah wished there was a beauty brand that focused on organic, nourishing ingredients, but also stood for something bigger than beauty, something deeper and more meaningful that could resonate with people. So, using their own experiences as their guide, their goal for SaltyGirl Beauty was to create a brand that speaks to all women, no matter their backgrounds or personal experiences. We really do believe that beauty is something that comes from within, and just want to enhance that beauty with some beautiful makeup and self care products, as well as offering a diverse community that people feel comfortable engaging in.

As our brand has grown and we brought on another person, we really have tried to hone in on what we are doing with SaltyGirl Beauty and what people have come to love and expect from us as a salty, beachy brand from Coastal Maine. Our mission in creating our beauty and bodycare products, as well as our work with our charities, Foundation4Love and Warrior Revolution, led us to starting Stories Behind Beauty, as a way of featuring the people in our community who have journeys they want to share as a way to encourage those around us. We all have lived experiences that help shape us into who we are and the beauty that we exude. We very often don't know what people have gone through in their lives that have made them who they are, so we want to highlight those stories. We are extremely proud of the work we've put into this campaign and we can't wait to share more + more stories with the SaltyGirl community. Our goal is to grow so that we can do more good, simple as that.

We are so passionate about what we are building, as a brand and as a community, that we can't wait to offer more of the quality and relatable content to our Salty family. We have a Facebook group, The Salty Lifestyle, where we have started doing what we hope to do more of in the future. Right now we are offering this as an inside peek at what we have coming in the future. We're having conversations about beauty standards all the way to JLo and Ben getting back together. It's really a fun space. We offer a special discount to our Lifestyle members, featured giveaways, as well as polling them on new scents and products. We hope to be able to offer subscription memberships with full size products as well as premium content specific to those subscriptions as well as new products before they are released. We have some excellent new products in the pipeline, a Summer beach photo shoot planned so that we can really hone in on our salty, beachy branding and some fantastic charity events planned, especially this Fall when Breast Cancer Awareness Month is one of our main focuses.

A sampling of our salty community

Even though we are a young brand, SaltyGirl Beauty is already engaging it's community in meaningful ways and sometimes just purely fun ways! We are empowered women looking to empower others through our brand, our products, our organizations and our personalities. We know we have something fantastic happening, brewing fresh out of New England. And we can't wait to welcome more people to what we are building, with open arms. We hope you'll see the passion we are putting forth and decide to feel a little salty, yourself!
