In recent years, laser hair removal has become increasingly popular among people between the ages of 18 to 35, for both men and women. With more people wanting to remove their unwanted hair, the more people with bad experiences there will be in this industry. This is why it's always good to educate yourself about this topic as much as possible before you pay a professional.

One of the most important things when committing for laser hair removal is scheduling a consultation with a certified professional. This is because consulting with a professional will help you understand how to procedure works, and get the best possible treatment tailored to your skin type. Besides, you can ask questions about any concerns you have and the do’s and don'ts.

With that said, here is how to prepare for your hair removal treatment before your first appointment.

Don’t tweeze, wax, or use any depilation cream.

Removal of your hair completely will make the process pointless, because there is no hair to remove. Laser hair machines target the hair from the root, which is the follicle. The goal is to destroy the follicle and the cells that make it up. If you remove the hair there won’t be anything the machine can focus on, resulting in burning your skin instead—which will never happen, assuming all of the certified professionals know that they should never treat a patient with no hair. All jokes aside, is good to remember not to removal the hair completely. Shaving is acceptable, and it's often recommended.

Make sure your skin is free of oils, creams, and perfumes.

It’s recommended to take a shower before your treatment, because it helps remove the unnecessary dirt, oils, and makeup. Washing thoroughly with soap and rinsing with water will do. Washing these always will help the laser machine perform at its best, and help you achieve the best results or the results you are looking to get.

Don’t take any medications before treatment.

Not all medications will affect your results, but is a good idea to consult with a certified medical professional. It's been tested that certain medications or prescription drugs will make your skin sensitive, making the hair removal process painful or more likely to result with side effects. Some of the medications I’m aware of are accutane, gold therapy, birth control, anti-inflammatory, hormone treatments, and maybe more.

Don’t tan or spray tan six weeks before.

Your hair follicles are in most cases darker than your skin, which means if you have just tanned, it will be hard for the machine and the medical team to differentiate the hairs from the skin. Not only that, but sun exposure can increase the possibility of skin discoloration and cause uncomfortable pain. Avoiding these two things will save you time and money when going to you first session. Your wellbeing is important!

Make an appointment with a certified professional.

Like I mentioned above, one of the most important steps you can take when you are preparing for your hair removal treatment is consulting with a professional. Look for someone with a certificate in laser hair removal, and has years of experience doing it. Most of the spas or clinics offering this service offer a free consultation, so is always good to take advantage of something that is completely free.

Like everything else in this world, there will always be its pros and cons. The good news is that with the right spa or clinic you will reduce your chances of getting a bad experience. No matter where you live looking for laser hair removal NYC, or laser hair removal in California. You can always trust an expert with years of experience.
