The Definitive Ranking of Dolly Parton Songs
It cannot be denied that 2020 was the year of Dolly. The Queen of Country not only delivered an impressive slate of creative projects in the form of books, music, and Netflix movies, but also gave us a Covid-19 vaccine and plenty of love and light to help us make it to 2021. Is there anything she can’t do?
Jesse HixsonPublished 3 years ago in Beat5 Best Disco or Disco Inspired Tracks of 2020
Ah yes, time for the semi-annual dragging of the '5 best...' trope out of my closet, dust blown of its surfaces. Only this time it its to be reimagined, attached to my ceiling to slowly rotate a constant flurry of light and disco fever over my impassioned, cold face as I sit in my dressing gown eating cereal at 10:10 pm.

Three or four years ago, a significant relationship I was in came to an end. Creating a themed playlist on Spotify, titled with the broken heart and skull-and-crossbones emojis, was one of my ways of coping with the loss and aftermath.

Music For A Boosted Mood Social distancing and mask wearing have made social life challenging. Through these masks it is difficult to breathe and to hear others as well. 2021 may just as well be a repeat of 2020, or at least half of it until the vaccinations numbers are up to the government's satisfaction. Life as we know it has changed dramatically. Aside from binging on Netflix and Hulu, painting, drawing, making jewelry and music, listening to music is something that enhances my mood significantly in these challenging times. I listen to music almost the entire day, upon waking up, when I'm bathing or showering, when I am falling sleep, and even on my way to the store. I have always had some chunky headphones or earbuds since mp3 players and the Walkman were trending. Music just gives me life!

With 2020 finally behind us, it’s time to look forward to the next year that will hopefully be at least a little easier for us all. One way to ease into the new year is by putting on some of your favorite tunes and letting them take you away to another place. However, with a new year comes new music, and there are several artists that are primed to release some fantastic new tunes.

Musicians Who Will Blow Your Mind in 2021
I’m a commercial songwriter which means that I write songs to pay my bills. In 2019 that meant heading from my native Northern Ireland to Norway, Nashville, Spain and several parts of England. In 2020 it involved learning to live stream studio files from Zoom. One good thing that I discovered whilst I was acquiring screen fatigue is that there is a lot of good music out there. A lot. Some of it is under the radar so I wanted to bring to your attention some music that is brilliantly crafted, produced and performed. We may not be jetting off, but we can travel in our minds…

1. Life Goes On The band really captured the essence of day to day life whilst isolating. It felt like the world came to a complete stop so suddenly. We weren't allowed outside and for many, mental health went downhill. Life Goes On really captured the feeling of being stuck, but reminding us that life continues and there will be a day where we can go outside and see other people again. The steady, calming melodies really help ease the slight anxiety that others may feel.

Having been forced to isolate again in 2021, I found more time for writing. Didn’t do as much as planned due to exhaustion but now I’ve recovered from COVID, I can start writing again. I know too tens are popular but I thought I could do a top 21 list of bands since we are in 2021 now. This list is in no particular order. My tastes have changed a lot over the years but there’s some bands that have remained in my top 20 for years. If I made this list fifteen years ago, there would been mainly pop, R&B and the occasional indie band here and there.
