Prince Of Vibration "I remember back when a great rapper had to collaborate with a great singer for a melodic song. Early 2000s. 2009 came along and we saw Drake do both."
Timely ComicsPublished 4 years ago in BeatThe Comeback of Melanie Martinez Through a TikTok Trend
When Melanie Martinez was first featured on The Voice in 2012, I fell in love with her instantly. From her creepy babydoll style, to her love of photography, all I wanted to do was watch her, a 17 year old just graduating high school, embrace the gap in her teeth and her scary sweet voice that seemed to embody every bit of all songs she covered. When Martinez was eliminated from The Voice, I continued to follow her journey on Instagram, and didn't hesitate to buy her first EP "Dollhouse" when it came out two years later in 2014.

Theresa TerzoniePublished 4 years ago in Beat2020 Hip Hop Survival Kit (COVID-19 ERA)
The weather is good around the Bay lately and I’ve been itching to get back to my routine making my rounds. However these are dark days we are experiencing currently with this Covid-19 pandemic and there is no question that all industries are affected. That includes the rap game and so I’ve been thinking about the things I did to get in the game, and how now I can’t even do some of those things. Now it is more evident then ever that times have changed, and we all need to re-evaluate our game. Right now I can’t hit up the club with my squad and get my singles played, can’t even hit the mall to promote and sell cd’s in the parking lot. I was working on touring this Spring and now thats all off the table. After a recent meeting with 106.1 KMEL about my single getting aired, and talks with BET about getting the video in rotation, things have stalled. I’ve been getting the run around about how this virus has shut down a lot of offices, and pushed back certain things. So now I’m looking at 2020 like, how can switch up the plan and still thrive in this downward spiral we’re going through. So I put together this 2020 Rapper Survival Kit to use as a guideline, and help other artists who may need direction.

I have to make this very clear that I have not met this woman personally, she could be a stick in the mud. She could even be extra petty with sugar on top. Her quirks could be unreasonable and embarrassing. This woman could be so shy and socially awkward, she is barely able to leave her home.

There it is again, tall dead grass, so tall I can't see over it. There are gravel roads, each road splits into another, but there was only a forward or a backward. The sun is scorching when I go backward. I know this path; it leads me to a house where malice lurks behind the curtains. It's raining and dark out when I go forwards. I follow the path to a payphone, where I frantically dial buttons on the keypad but I can't see. It rains harder by this stage, and a truck pulls up beside me. A tall, broad-shouldered man slams his truck door and starts to run at me. He leaves his engine running. I can't see him, the glare from his headlights bounces off the raindrops. I have to run, but I'm running blind.

The next Lebron James or the next Jay-Z? What are the chances? A dream killer is the worst kind of person in the world, but a mentor can be the best. Growing up in the East Bay Area, of California as a minority in a broken home, during the crack epidemic can be a difficult task. However, I thought being blessed with athletic and musical talent would make things easier. As the EBAL 100 meter dash champion, all league football player, and college football scholarship recipient, the path to a success story was clear. Life however isn’t all that simple. Its full of twists and turns, crashes and burns. The key to survival for me has always been after the fall, how fast will I bounce back. Now looking back I realize the lack of a trusted mentor had its negative effects on me, and I want to share my experience with the youth, hoping I can help them persevere through similar adversities.
Renz JulianPublished 4 years ago in BeatJustin Bieber Saved My Life
We all know him. Some of us love him, some of us hate him. I’ve actually been in both of these categories. For the first several years of his career, I couldn’t stand Justin Bieber. In my opinion, he was overrated, disrespectful, and he hadn’t even gone through puberty yet. All of his songs were about relationships and love, which I found ironic since he had never held a healthy relationship at that point in his life. It was 2009, he was 15 years old, a year younger than me.
