This is a short series of songs written for each day of the week. I began with songs with Monday and progressing through the week we are now up to songs with Thursday in the title and will add the links to each one below as I progress.

Thursday’s Child” is a song that was recorded by English singer, songwriter, musician, and actor David Bowie. It is featured on his 1999 album Hours. The song was written by Bowie and Reeves Gabrels. It was released as the lead single from the album. The song lyrics sing of the bleak life the narrator believes he has ahead of him but then meets someone and things change.

Thursday” is a song that was recorded by the English synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys. It features the vocals of English singer and rapper Example. The song was released as the fourth single from the duo’s 2013 album Electric. The song charted on the UK Singles chart and was accompanied by a music video filmed in Shanghai, China.

I Lost Thursday” is like a kind ode to the time of social distancing, and being locked away from the world and losing track of time. It was recorded by the American alternative rock band They Might Be Giants who liked to put out quirky and catchy songs. The lyrics lead us on a journey to find Thursday since the narrator does not know where he left this day. Perhaps many listeners can relate when as a busy week passes by too quickly it might be time to take a look at the calendar to see where we are at present.

(Thursday) Here’s Why I Did Not Go to Work Today" is a song recorded by American singer and songwriter Harry Nilsson. It is featured on the 1974 album Pussy Cats. The song stands out from the rest with its unique lyrics and haunting melody but Nilsson fans would not expect anything less of him. The song's lyrics follow the narrator’s process as he contemplates the reasons he did not go to work that day. Perhaps going to work might have impacted his personal happiness.

Thursday” is a heartfelt and introspective song that was written and performed by American singer and songwriter Jim Croce in 1973. It is a poignant ballad reflection on Croce’s personal experiences and emotions. The song captures the very essence of love, longing, and the desire for human contact. As with many Croce songs, this one has the draw of telling a story and captivating the listener. Many of Croce’s songs have become hits mainly because of this talent that he had of weaving a spellbinding tale through his music.

Jersey Thursday” is a song that comes from Scottish singer and songwriter Donovan. It was recorded in 1965 and is featured on this album Fairytale. The songs on this album lean toward British folk songs among them “Summer Day Reflection”, “Jersey Thursday”, and “Sunny Goodge Street”. “Jersey Thursday” reflects on the psychedelic as the narrator sings about looking at the world through colored glasses. Jersey is a British island where the narrator enjoys relaxing and watching birds fly above.

Sweet Thursday” is a song that was recorded by American singer Johnny Mathis. It is a lovely song capturing the essence of long-awaited love that finally appeared on a Thursday. The lyrics reflect on destiny and fate and how love might come or not because it is a long journey of memories and emotions. Mathis silky voice and pure tones will take you on a lovely journey to meet up with love at long last.
