I love music. I know, I know, everybody does, but I mean I really love music. I rely on music. I live for music. I don't just listen to it, I feel it. Without it, a usually bright light would dim within my soul.

I am, what I would call a "song saver." A lot of people find an artist they like, download every album they've ever made, and that's that. Not me. Well, actually I lie. I could listen to any Amy Winehouse song and each time be in awe of her talent... But apart from that, I live for the best of the best. The individual songs that make me feel. The ones that get me motivated and make me feel the passion that went into the composition.

From reggae to hip-hop and from classical to jazz. Lyrics or instrumental, with English vocals not essential. If the song gets me in the feelings, makes me want to move, sing or shout, I'm guaranteed to hit that save button on Spotify.

"Roses"-SAINt JHN Imanbek remix.

Probably one of my all time favourite house tunes, this is a great song for running. Its definitely one that makes you want to close your eyes and feel it. Of course I don't recommend closing your eyes whilst running or it won't just be the music you feel!

If house music is your thing check out the following;

1. "Down by the river"-Koosen.

2."Douha"-Disclosure.

3."Sexy back"-DMNDS.

I stumbled upon this next one a few years ago. Not only is she a stunning lady and absolutely incredible singer, this is a video of one of the best freestyle raps I have ever come across. Flavia's music speaks to me even when I don't understand what she's saying and that is pure talent!

"To na area" Flavia Coelho.

Whether you're lifting weights, stretching, running or dancing, if it's powerful female vocals you look to for motivation, these are some of the songs you need:

1."Heartbreaker"-Pat Benaton.

2."Doing me"-Ray BLK.

3."Burn"-Oshun.

4."Steamers a bubble"-Jah9.

"Nobody Move"-Eazy E

Now everybody loves a bit of old school hip-hop. If you were already familiar with NWA or you more recently watched the film "Straight out of Compton." You'll know the struggle. The blood, sweat and tears that went into the creation of these types of songs, and again, I feel it.

If old school hips-hop is your thing, lets be honest, you're probably already familiar with these next songs;

1."Hypnotize"-Biggie Smalls.

2."Everyday struggle"-Biggie Smalls.

3."Hip-Hop"-Dead Prez.

I definitely have a heightened empathy capacity which is a blessing and a curse. I am unable to be told a situation or circumstance, where my body doesn't conjure up the exact feelings that I would be experiencing, if I was the one going through it. This helps me to feel and understand things better from another point of view, however it also has its down sides.

Although I love hip-hop, having this "ability" can be rather awkward. For, in this case, it makes a 23-year-old, English, white women who lives in a seaside town in the U.K, feel like a "gangster" with complex and dangerous life problems. I simply cannot help it. I feel the music.

"Badness"-Ninjaman Ft Monkey Marc.

Ok, so bear with me on this one. Another one of my absolute favourites, this is a powerful one. As a massive lover of reggae, I didn't have to take time deciphering the lyrics but I have provided the video which contains the words for you. Not only does this song make you want to close your eyes, nod your head and move your feet, it also has extremely powerful lyrics. Ninjaman, a previously "pro-gang" Jamaican artist, convicted of murder, with a change of opinion. He composed a song of warning to young people thinking of going down the same route and it is brilliant. It's songs like this that give me the motivation to move, lift, run and dance. It's also a great one for working the pads in martial arts training.

If like me you're a lover of all things Reggae, then get your ears around these reggae/dance style tunes;

1."Jah Gringo"-Martin Jondo

2."Trust"-Buju Banton.

3."Original Nuttah"-Shy Fx.

4."Trippin n Bunnin"-Ragga Twins.

A lot of my friend's work-out playlists seem to consist of just one genre. Mainly house, drum and bass or similar frantic, up beat music. With me, even when working out, I get my motivation from the feeling I get from the music and not necessarily the tempo of the beat. The genre also depends on what type of work-out I am doing. Not all forms of exercise require intense music.

"Echoes"-The rapture.

Many different types of music can help you get through a gruelling work-out. If you love working out to a bit of alternative/indie, rap/rock or rock music then here you go;

1."Sabotage"-Beastie Boys.

2."Liberty Belle"-Fontaines D.C.

3."Kickstart my heart"-Motley Crue.

Gramatik playlist.

If you want an easy listen with minimal lyrics for you to concentrate on the work-out. Look no further than Gramatik and their many great compilations on YouTube. They flow beautifully, last around an hour and I promise they won't disappoint. These are not just perfect for work-outs but great for background music when you are relaxing after.

As a "song saver," I was pleasantly surprised when a film I watched resulted in me saving most songs on the soundtrack. Now I already loved the purge franchise, but it's newest film was brilliant. Never did I think that the soundtrack of the film would be as favourable as the movie!

I would say this playlist is best suited for workouts such as martial arts training, pressure work-outs or whilst lifting weights. Each song really gives you that motivational feel.

So if Trap style music is your go-to, check out "The first purge" soundtrack. I've provided links for a few of the songs along with a written list of the full playlist.

1."Alright"-Kendrick Lemar

(Skip to 2.42 for the start of the song.)

2."Which one which"-MAESTRO

(Skip to 0.47 for the start of the song.)

3."Problem solver"-Tbam.

One of my favourites with a really good video.

4."Let it whip"-Dazz Band

Ok, so I know this isn't trap, but I did have to pause writing to pick up my baby and dance with her!

Full soundtrack to "The First Purge";

  1. Uhohhh-Troy Ave
  2. Problem Solver-Tbam
  3. Can't hold me-Curly Sav & Dah Dah
  4. Mo Bamba-Sheck Wes
  5. Let it whip-Dazz Band
  6. Catch a lick-IamG & Robb Lyrical
  7. Alive-Lil Jon, Offset & 2Chainz
  8. NASCAR-1PLAYY
  9. Guatemala-Rae Sremmurd, Swae Lee & Slim Jxmmi
  10. Plug walk-Rich The Kid
  11. Up-Designer
  12. Which one which-MAESTRO
  13. Lost it-Rich The Kid, Quavo & Offset
  14. The reaper cometh-Kevin Lax & Designer
  15. Alright-Kendrick Lemar

So next time you put together a work-out playlist don't just stick to one genre. Take some time to pick out those songs that really get you motivated. The ones that make you feel, the ones that'll make you enjoy the experience that bit more.
