This article incorporates two things I love very much color and music. As I write about colors and their meaning I also think about songs that are written about different colors. So each color becomes musical and I think you will enjoy taking this colorfully musical journey.

White is thought of as being the color of ghosts and spirits if you can see them. It is the color of misty foggy days when white swirls seem to dance upon the ground. It is a color associated with innocence and purity like pristine white snow that seems to sparkle with diamonds in the sun. It is a color that is used a lot in institutions like hospitals because it's a color symbolizing sterility and cleanliness. White is a color also associated with goodness like in westerns where the good guy wears white and the bad guy wears black. It is the color of paper and blank pages, of wedding gowns and crystal clear gems like diamonds. And the song - "Knights In White Satin" by The Moody Blues.

Red is not only the color of love and romance but it is also a very emotional color. It is bold and dramatic and always makes a statement. Red has always been the color of hearts and is associated with comfort and warmth. It can also be and an angry color as people who are angry turn red in their faces. When you have something to celebrate you usually go out to paint the town red. Red roses are a great way to say I love you. Chris de Burgh sang a very lovely song titled "Lady In Red."

Orange is both a fiery and warm color. It is the color of sunsets that streak the skies, The color is always associated with pumpkins and Halloween. Orange is looked upon to be an energetic color and makes one think of good things to come. Orange juice is a popular juice to drink and orange colored fruits are oranges and mandarines. As for the song - "Orange Colored Sky" by Nat King Cole.

Brown is often a color that is not preferred too often but it is the color of the sandy ground. It is a color making one feel warm, comfortable, and secure. It is the color of animals like horses and cows and those that have brown fur. There are brown colored birds. Brown is also the color of natural leather. It goes well with other solid colors like orange, white, and yellow. People have brown eyes so the song here is "Brown-eyed Girl" by Van Morrison.

Yellow has always been the color of the sun a very bright and happy color. Yellow flowers always bring smiles and the color is warm and cheery. When walls are painted yellow it seems as if the sun has come indoors. Yellow can increase a person's metabolism and due to its brightness often draws the most attention. A yellow golden glow in late afternoons can always make us feel comforted. A delightful song for this color is "Mellow Yellow" by Donovan.

After we have gone through the gray and dreary days of winter how wonderful it is in the spring to start seeing the color green everywhere. It symbolizes nature and is the color associated with health, tranquillity, good luck, and even jealousy. There is the saying - green with envy. Green is the color of money. If people paint at least one room green it will make them feel peaceful when in that room. It has been discovered that green can improve one's ability to read and therefore often in libraries there are tables with lamps that have green shades. Strange as it might seem in the 15th century this color was the preferred color for wedding gowns. Green can relieve stress and during the spring and summer, people often go to parks to relax as the lush green all around offers tranquillity. People who have green thumbs as the saying goes often grow many flowers and plants in their gardens. You can find green apples and limes among other fruit. Lovely gems that sparkle with green highlights are emeralds. A song with green is "Green Tamborine" by The Lemon Pipers.

Blue is a color preferred by many people. We enjoy bright and clear blue skies. When the skies were a brilliant blue in the summertime my mom would say they are as blue as Egyptian skies. It is a color also associated with clear waters. Blue offers serenity and calm or it can make us feel sad and blue. Dieticians say that if food is eaten from blue plates we'll eat less and be able to lose weight. The color is associated with many things like blue Mondays and blue moons. Blue flowers are very lovely and people have blue eyes. The song I have chosen for blue is "Blue Moon" by The Marcels.

Purple is a favorite color and is the color of riches and royalty. It is an imaginative color and associated with spirituality and wisdom. Foods with the color are grapes, plums, and eggplants. It is also a powerful color and people enjoy wearing it with other solid colors like white, yellow, and orange. The song is "Deep Purple" by Donny and Marie as in deep purple dreams.

Gray is a color of dreary rainy days and wintertime skies and it can bring sadness. The color is also associated with wisdom, knowledge, and intellect and is considered to be a conservative color. It is often chosen as a background color to make brighter colors stand out. A gray song is "Shades of Gray" by The Monkees.

We come to the color of doom and gloom which is black. Often people are frightened of dark night when the moon and stars are not in sight. It is the color associated with witches and vampires. Black bats flying in the night scare people. It has gained a bad reputation and is considered of foreboding disaster. The color of mourning and worn at funerals. However, in Egypt black was considered to represent life and rebirth. It is a fashionable color with ladies wearing black cocktail dresses and men in black tuxes. It is the main color of penguins combined with white. Even though there are really no black foods people do enjoy candy, like black licorice. The song for this color "Baby's In Black" by The Beatles.

Everyone enjoys rainbows and they always make people smile after the rain has gone away. Rainbows combine the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. And who could ever forget the classic song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and the version I prefer was the one used in the romantic comedy "You've Got Mail" by Harry Nilsson.
