Usually, we choose songs we like by the melody, the lyrics, and by the musical genre. I’m starting a series with songs from all kinds of genres going according to the alphabet. Here are songs with titles that begin with the letter W. Links will be posted below as we proceed through the ABCs. A fantastic song with a great beat “(Who Wrote) the Book of Love” was recorded by the American doo-wop vocal group The Monotones in 1957. The song was written by three group members Warren Davis, George Malone, and Charles Patrick. The song charted on the Billboard 100 and R&B charts. In 1969 the song was performed by the American rock and roll revival group Sha Na Na at the Woodstock Festival.

A nice romantic kind of ballad “When Will I See You Again” was recorded in 1974 by the American soul group The Three Degrees. The song was written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. Billboard magazine listed it at number 67 on their list of 100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time, The Three Degrees performed the song at Prince Charles’ 30th birthday at Buckingham Palace in 1978. It charted on the Pop Singles and R&B charts in the US and on the UK Singles chart.

I have always loved the song “Wild Thing” by the English rock band The Troggs. It was written by American songwriter Chip Taylor. The song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and also charted on the UK Singles chart in 1966. Rolling Stone magazine has it on their 2004 list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

A poignant and lovely song “When Will I Be Loved” was recorded by American singer Linda Ronstadt. The song was written by Phil Everly of the American rock duo The Everly Brothers. The duo first recorded the song in 1960 and had a Top Ten hit with it. Ronstadt covered the song in 1975 and it became a popular hit. It is on her album Heart Like a Wheel. Her version charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and went to number one on the Cash Box chart.

A likable song with a great melody “We’ve Gotta Get Out of This Place” was recorded by the English rock band The Animals. It was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil and became a hit single for the band in 1965. The song is on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

I have always enjoyed this lovely song “Woman, Woman” by the American pop-rock group Gary Puckett and the Union Gap. It was written by Jim Glaser and Jimmy Payne. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box charts in 1968. The band released the song as their debut single and later it was certified Gold.

A great song with an interesting melody “Witchy Woman” was recorded by the American rock band The Eagles in 1972. The song was written by Don Henley and Bernie Leadon. It is featured on their debut album Eagles. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box charts. It is one of the earliest songs written by The Eagles.

I love the song “With a Little Help From My Friends” sung with the raspy voice of English singer Joe Cocker“. This song was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and first recorded by the English rock band The Beatles. It was sung by drummer Ringo Starr (as Sgt. Pepper singer Billy Shears)., his lead vocal for the Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band album. Cocker recorded his version in 1968 and topped the UK Singles chart.
