Usually, we choose songs we like by the melody, the lyrics, and by the musical genre. I’m starting a series with songs from all kinds of genres going according to the alphabet. Here are songs with titles that begin with the letter Q. Links will be posted below as we proceed through the ABCs. At the end, you’ll find the links to the songs with titles that begin with the letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, and P.

A great song with a catchy melody “Quarter to Three was adapted from “A Night with Daddy G” – Part 1” (Legrand LEG 1004) an instrumental by the Church Street Five. The song was written by Gene Barge, Frank Guida, and Joseph Royster. It was recorded by American rhythm and blues, rock and roll singer Gary U.S. Bonds in 1961. The song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and also charted on the Hot R&B Sides. It is on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of The 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.

I have loved this song for like forever. From the first time, I heard American singer and actress Doris Day singing it and soon I knew the song by heart. “Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)” was written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans in 1955. It was introduced by Doris Day in the Alfred Hitchcock movie “The Man Who Knew Too Much” in 1956. Day recorded the song and it charted on the Billboard Top 100 chart and went to number one on the UK Singles chart. This became her signature song and the film received the 1956 Academy Award for Best Original Song. It also brought the expression “que sera sera” into the English language to indicate “cheerful fatalism”.

Another kind of feel-good song from American disco and funk band KC & the Sunshine Band “Queen of Clubs”. The song is on their debut album Do It Good from 1974. The song became a bit hit and the album cover has the playing card Queen of Clubs on it.

I have loved this country song for a long time, I hear it, crank up the volume, and have to dance along. “Queen of Hearts” is a country-pop song that was written by Hank DeVito. It was first recorded in 1979 by Welsh musician Dave Edmunds and is on his album Repeat When Necessary. My version is the one recorded by American country singer Juice Newton. She sang it in 1981 and it is on her album Juice. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified Gold. It was a favorite of country music radio stations. Her version also became an international hit and she re-recorded the song for her 1998 album The Trouble with Angels.

“Queen of the Highway” has always been among my favorite songs by the American rock band The Doors. It was recorded in 1970 and is on their album Morrison Hotel. The song was part of the blues rock-style album which charted on the Billboard 200.

A very likable song with fantastic lyrics “Quit Playing Games (with My Heart)” was recorded by the American boy band Backstreet Boys in 1996. It was featured on their international debut album. The song reached number one in many European countries and was later featured on their debut US album coming out in 1997. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and is hat number 26 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 75 Greatest Boy Band Songs of All Time.
