ECLECTIC MIX OCTOBER 21

The tracks filling my head space this month

Well last month finally seen autumnal weather hit us, a little later than usual most probably due to climate change, which in itself is ironic as my city of Glasgow hosts COP26. The tree’s have now practically dropped all their leaves, and the wet and windy weather is giving way to shorter, darker colder days and nights. So it’s time to get cosy, crank the heating up (not too warm now, think of the planet) and enjoy home comforts while the weather shifts closer to winter.

This month’s playlist surprise surprise isn’t as long as it usually is, clocking in at around 1 hour and 49 minutes ! Unfortunately I haven’t had as much time this month to give over to music, well at least not new music. Perhaps it’s the drawing in of the days, or a subconscious thing but I have been listening to older playlists and bands that I have loved over the years. I still haven’t completely shed the Hip-Hop vibe in my playlists of late, however it definitely isn’t as strong this time around, well at least not in this playlist. There is a more eclectic range, with electro, Indie, chillout, ambient, Hip-Hop, alt-rock, funk, Dance, Trip-Hop, 80’s, Reggae, 70’s, 90’s and more.

As alway’s, i can appreciate the list might be quite long (even though this month’s is shorter). I know I’ve said it many times before, but one day it will be short(er). Also as always I’ve included a YouTube playlist below, which boils down the songs, that are without doubt, in my opinion worth a listen and shouldn’t be missed:

Bossart Ensemble – When the World is Running Down

A Tribe Called Quest – Midnight

Gnarls Barkley – Crazy

A Tribe Called Quest ft. Faith Evans – Stressed Out

Beastie Boys – Intergalactic

Jamiroquai – Virtual Insanity

Rain Radio, DJ Craig Gorman – Talk About

A TRibe Called Quest – Award Tour

DJ Cam – Friends and Enemies

Jamiroquai – Cosmic Girl

Carly Simon – Why

The All Seeing I – Beat Goes On

This months spotify playlist features Maya Jane Coles, Charlotte Adigery, Bossart Ensemble, Global Communication, A Tribe Called Quest, Aaliyah, Gnarls Barkley, Beastie Boys, Jamiroquai, Rain Radio, JD Cam, Kraftwerk, Todd Terje, Anthea and Donna, Carly Simon, The All Seeing I, and Rebecca Ferguson.

Similarly the reason for this month’s list not being as long as usual is that I have been listening heavily to A Tribe Called Quest and listening to all their albums. I think they really are worth checking out and giving a listening to. They are very different from most other Hip-Hop acts that are more well known than them, but they have been around a lot longer than most of them. Most of their music reads more like social commentary of what was happening at the time, or what they themselves experienced first-hand which is partly what makes their music so appealing. Interesting fact was after hearing their 2nd album, The Low End Theory, Dr Dree was inspired to produce his famous The Chronic album. So if you want to experience a lesser known corner of the Hip-Hop world give the Spotify playlist below, or the YouTube one a go and see what you think:

I Left My Wallet in El Segundo

Bonita Applebum

Can I Kick It ?

Check The Rhime

Jazz (We Got)

Award Tour

Electric Relaxation

1nce Again

Stressed Out

Find A Way

Dis Generation

As always i think these playlists aret for listening to anytime really (well i would say that as it’s my list) but is probably best enjoyed loudly or with a good set of headphones on. So until next month, be safe, look after each other!
