Doctor, Doctor

Introduction

I haven't done anything music-based for over two weeks and thought with the current Snacktime Sonata Vocal Challenge I could do one based on that. Here's the Challenge and one contained some music:

But I had already done a food playlist and you know I don't like repeating myself, but you can (hopefully) listen here (and I didn't realise about the grammatical error in the title):

So we will delve into the world of medical staff in song names and band names and we will start with one that I used to play and is one of my favourite songs by the band featuring the sadly missed Wilko Johnson.

Dr. Feelgood - You Shouldn't Call the Doctor (If You Can't Afford the Bills)

Wilko Johnson is my guitar here and my "playing" is based on his combined lead/rhythm style, which he got from Mick Green of the Pirates. I've included a live take on this so you get to see Wilko in full flight.

We lost Wilko in 2022 and as well as being a musician he appeared in "Game of Thrones", as the mute executioner Ser Ilyn Payne.

Gregory Isaacs - Night Nurse

This was a hit single, and though it hardly sets the world on fire it is a pleasant enough song, and means we have a nurse mentioned as well as some reggae.

C Sharp - "Nurse"

Another reggae piece and the subject is a Nurse. A bit more upbeat than the Gregory Isaacs song this is worth more than a few minutes of your time.

Neil Young - "Ambulance Blues"

This is a coincidence because I used a song from "On The Beach" (with its oddly opposite title) from my story below. I wanted to include ambulance crews in here because they do an incredible job, but this will do as a placeholder and is a brilliant song.

UFO - "Doctor, Doctor"

One of two songs that provided the title for this story and though it takes almost a minute to get started, even this rerecording is an excellent slice of metal.

Doctor and the Medics - "Spirit In The Sky"

I only remember them having this hit, so you have a one-hit-wonder covering a one-hit-wonder taking on Norman Greenbaum's pension plan. Great song though, apparently took Norman fifteen minutes to pen, the rest is history.

Blue Öyster Cult - "Dr. Music"

I really didn't like this when I first heard it and it is the album's opener, but over the years the riff has grown on me. It did put me off the album but once the opener is out of the way there are some amazing songs on there. If you like this , the album will blow you away.

Ron Grainer / Delia Derbyshire and more - "Doctor Who Theme"

This had to be in, but is a mix of all the openings for the Delia Derbyshire original performance up to the present day. This is eleven minutes for you to enjoy sixty years of the Doctor Who theme.

Oceansize - "Music For A Nurse"

Eight minutes of beautiful guitar minimalism, and we get another Nurse into the playlist. This is incredibly relaxing and a great piece to calm yourself if you listened to all eleven minutes of the Doctor Who theme.

Thompson Twins - "Doctor, Doctor"

The second song with this title in this playlist. The Thompson Twins took their name from the detectives in Hergé's "Tin Tin" cartoon series. Very nineteen-eighties but still a great song, and a good one to close this playlist with.
