Defeating Procrastination: Embracing Action for Effective Results

Maximize Productivity

When you feel even the slightest hint of laziness, without hesitation, set aside whatever you're currently doing and immediately start working on the task you least want to do but have to do.

For example, if you're watching videos online and regretting wasting the entire morning without doing research, you should immediately close the video webpage, open Google Scholar, and start reading the latest articles in your field. Take it sentence by sentence, and soon enough, you'll get into the flow.

Or let's say you wake up in the morning reluctant to leave the warm embrace of your bed, but you had planned to go to the gym today. In that case, you should promptly jump out of bed (don't believe in the nonsense about the benefits of staying in bed for your health), get dressed, brush your teeth, grab a quick breakfast from the fridge, and once you've done all that, you won't feel the urge to return to your cozy haven.

Another example: you have a meeting and a presentation to prepare for on Friday, but it's a lazy Tuesday afternoon, and you're contemplating whether to postpone it for a couple of days. In such a situation, you should immediately turn on your computer, create a new PowerPoint document, gather the necessary materials, and start writing the content. Before you know it, you'll have completed the presentation.

By repeating these actions in your life, they will become automatic responses. You'll swiftly accomplish important tasks without delay. Procrastination is something many people struggle with, but it's not an excuse for laziness. This condition can be completely cured. Every successful person I know doesn't have an ounce of procrastination in them, not even a little bit! That's because they possess the power of execution.

The core of the method I propose lies in: 1) Dropping whatever you're currently doing at the first sign of laziness (videos, music, social media, your warm bed, etc.), and 2) Not thinking about anything during this process. In our lives, a significant portion of our energy, around 80%, is consumed in initiating a task. Therefore, when you approach it with an unstoppable attitude and complete this 80% in a short period of time, the remaining 20% can be accomplished with ease due to momentum.

Never, ever say, "I'll start from next week/tomorrow/in an hour/in half an hour/in twenty minutes/in ten minutes/in five minutes." Start right now, this very second! My method has a bonus—it's highly stimulating. Just imagine, one second ago you were indulging in leisurely laziness, and the next second you're doing something meaningful. The sudden contrast can have a profound impact on your psyche, enough to transform you. Once you get accustomed to this contrast, your procrastination will be cured.

In reality, my method may not guarantee that you'll complete all tasks with the highest quality. However, the most valuable aspect is that it trains you to develop a habit of consistently working on the highest-priority tasks. Whether you aspire to be a scientist, a CEO, or even a national leader, cultivating this habit is your first step.

After reading this answer, immediately put down your phone and get studying. NOW!
