Columbia, MO based Heavy Rockers Dark Below have been climbing steadily for the last 2 years, and have delivered their most powerful single yet in “Make Believe”. What began as a humble trio making music for their friends in the Midwest has grown into a promising force on the national rock scene.

The band is influenced by Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin, and 10 Years – and that heavy alternative sound shines through on this release. It has a wall-of-sound vide with massive guitars, thunderous drums, and booming bass – Thanks to award-winning producer Malcolm Springer (Matchbox 20, Collective Soul, Fear Factory, Josey Scott) and JPS Productions Jason Schrick. The song was recorded at East Iris Studios in Nashville, TN.

It hasn’t been a quick or easy ascent for the power trio, but from all appearances they are doing things the right way – releasing music regularly, giving each song and video time to get traction in the marketplace, and then amplifying the music with Active Rock radio campaigns – they have reached the Top 20 twice with previous releases “Tense” and earlier this year with “Hate Being Human”. “Make Believe” looks to meet or exceed those previous tracks, as it’s already at #35 and climbing the SMR Active Rock Radio Chart. The song has been added to key Hard Rock playlists at Apple Music, Pandora, and Audiomack – which is helping the band grow their online fanbase. The band has previously released their self-titled EP in 2017, and the single “Halo” in 2019.

Dark Below’s Josh Campbell says “Make Believe’ is a song about the power of imagination. I grew up without any siblings and spent a lot of time on my own – so I think it was inevitable for me to become a really imaginative person. What I learned is that your imagination has the ability to bring you out of really dark places… But it also has the ability to put you back there, if you aren’t careful.”

The video for “Make Believe” was filmed by Tyler Gramke of Tygr Creative at Rose Music Hall in the band’s home town of Columbia, MO. Campbell explains “We’ve played a lot of shows at Rose over the last couple of years. We ended up doing two different shoots – one was just us playing along to the song and recording the video and the other was actual footage of us playing the song live a couple of weeks later. We love the energy we get from our hometown fans, and we feed it back to them”.

The band is grinding it out on the live circuit – which seems to be one of the only tried-and-true ways for a Rock band to develop anymore and grow a following. Dark below have toured for the past 6 years, building up a loyal following in the Midwest as an opener for Buckcherry, Saliva, Pop Evil, Smile Empty Soul, The Veer Union, and more. They have new tour dates starting in the fall, which will see the band supporting Rehab and Scotty Austin (former lead singer of Saving Abel) as they play to larger audiences. The band will be adding dates for the rest of the year, with plans to continue touring into 2024.
