Kelly Clarksons album “Breakaway” is the playlist that I love to listen to whenever I am feeling nostalgic. This album can relate to a lot of feelings I had growing up, and that I’m sure many teens can relate to. Maybe even some young adults. The songs helped me get through some tough times. My feelings, at that time in my life, were the lyrics. It’s what made this album so great for me, and I’ll explain why.

BREAKAWAY

This song is highly relatable to teens in the fact that it talks about daydreaming about making themselves something bigger than they ever thought they would be. It’s about how often times they can feel misunderstood or sometimes not even heard at all from their parents and their peers. Also, the situation of maturing and just realizing and deciding that no matter what it takes, that one day they will succeed and be on their own. They can come out on top. Vowing to themselves, that one day they will “breakaway.”

SINCE YOU BEEN GONE

This song relates to a teens love for someone who is totally wrong for them. They don’t know it right away. Their love interest is quite possibly considered a player. They never really loved them. They always left them wondering when they would see them next. They never expressed their feelings to them. They never called them by their name. That person just liked the positive attention that they gave them. Then one day, they quit coming around, and they realize that they’re better off without them, and once again they can put themselves first. They may come back and try to make excuses for their behavior, but these teens have had enough. They’re truly happy since they’ve been gone.

BEHIND THESE HAZEL EYES

The obvious reason this song resonates with me is because I do have hazel eyes. Besides that, this song talks about that seemingly perfect love that all teens have, but somehow seems to go horribly wrong. This love seems so perfect at first, and then the person quits contacting them, and possibly just disappears on them. Nowhere to be seen or heard from. Almost like they’re avoiding them. This love is one that drastically changes their lives. When they met their love, they were happy and confident. After this happens, teens are exactly the opposite. Melancholy, no confidence, and broken inside. More than anyone could ever know. The worst part? The one they love ghosted them, so they will never know how broken they made them. Nor do they care. They will never see the tears or the pain “behind these hazel eyes.”

BECAUSE OF YOU

This song strikes me because it tells of the love teens can have for awhile, not just short term. This love ends up going wrong most likely due to some form of abuse. Whether it was physical or emotional, it can have some long term effects on how they handle their lives from then on out. The teens will try so hard not to be like the person who hurt them that it actually takes away from who they are as a person. They will find it hard to trust; and lose who they are in the process, since they spent so much time trying to please someone else. They were made to feel that who they were was not good enough. After some time they may heal; but they will always remember all they went through because of that one person.

GONE

This song talks about the love interest that teens had, but they didn’t really ever care about those teens. They possibly cheated on them. They didn’t care about their feelings at all. Teens will realize very quickly that this person isn’t worth their time, tears, or love. This person will try to come back to try to make up with them, but it’s too late. The teens realize that their previous love interest and their whole situation, is toxic. They break contact with them in every way possible. They know they’re better off without them. This song is also empowering. It’s about knowing what teens and all people deserve, and what’s good for them. By the time their ex realizes they’ve made a big mistake; every teen is already long “gone.”

CONCLUSION

This album covers over a multitude of relationships that I myself and other teens experience all the time. Also, young adults that may have some growing up to do. These songs, are feelings put to music. It reminds teens there are others who go through this, and to just keep pushing on. Kelly Clarksons album is all about the teen angst feelings, only found in the teen crazy heart.
