If you're going to pick a fist-fight with someone, you should probably check them for other weapons first. An associate of Lil’ Durk’s Only the Family (OTF), ARoy failed to do so and is now in the bosom of Abraham.

ARoy had been throwing blows like a prizefighter, but despite his pummeling hus opposition to the ground, the guy got up, pulled a concealed pistol, and shot ARoy dead as he walked away.

The video footage of the killing is a teachable touchstone. It keeps the streets informed on how to avoid getting killed the same way. The fight had been largely one-sided until ARoy successfully put his enemy on the ground. ARoy didn’t consider the possibility that “winning” with his fists could escalate the situation to the point where his opponent would be willing to use more lethal means to defend himself. ARoy’s arrogance got the better of him, and he seems to have forgotten everything he ought to have known about the streets.

It didn’t seem to even occur to him that the fight might not be over. He landed the man on the ground, and to him, that was that.

This should be a lesson, albeit a brutal one, for the youngsters coming up in the game. If you’re going to initiate force, and assault someone, better find out if your target is armed first, especially since they’ll have every right to use lethal force to defend themselves against your brutality.

If there is no order in the streets of Chicago’s infamous O Block, these kinds of activities will continue.

The tragedy of it all is so Shakespearean. ARoy’s death may seem to youngsters there that ARoy was playing a role, acted out in a bloody fashion. The infamous footage should be presented to film producers, directors, and writers of the show The Chi to help them as their actors pretend to navigate the vicious coldness of the Chicago streets juxtaposed against the poignant beauty in black neighborhoods, this series should be motivated to capture what happened.

Respect goes to the shooter for not being cowed by ARoy. He showed remarkable aim and trigger control, hitting only his mark, and no one else.

The sounds of screaming women in the background echo the cries from those not present who want these shootings to end, but they won’t. This will continue as long as public professors at colleges and universities teach future public school teachers that their students’ minds are inferior, there’s no objective reality, and life is struggle.

Until the day comes when teachers teach students to think for themselves, see themselves as victors, rather than victims, and life as precious, fleeting, and what they make of it, these nihilistic nightmares will keep coming to life in the streets of Chicago.

ARoy had ties to entertainers who are making millions of dollars. He had access to resources and abilities, but by not thinking about his own personal safety, he swallowed slugs. He could have made something of himself if he had left not been amongst the hood boogers behind, in his past, where they belonged. While some outlets have said he was murdered, it seems like self-defense. ARoy, sadly, turned his back on his own assault victim, and met an untimely end.

If there is to be a future of young people who are supposed to produce and consume within the genre of hip hop, it would behoove them to know that streets gotta eat. Not everyone is their friend and that it is imperative to understand the rubric of street life. If there is to be a place for young people to flourish within the genre, the rules, guidelines, and codes have to be recognized. Either that or another ARoy incident will happen.
