Last year, we had a chat with Throne Room's founder, Choir Director, and Songwriter, McAnthony Ben-Ameh. You can read all about it HERE.

On March 3, 2023, Throne Room released their third album titled "Broken". The project consists of twelve songs and is a pleasure to listen to lasting 58 minutes and 43 seconds. It is an alternative gospel record with lovely string and vocal embellishments as well as some refreshing guest appearances.

All songs were written by McAnthony Ben-Ameh and produced by the very talented Emmeo Ogwuche.

The first track, "Broken" is an easy introduction to the entire record and highlights how this record is targeted at every individual who feels unworthy by virtue of life's trials and challenges. The album is synonymous with a famous scripture in The Bible that says God is close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18).

Track two, "Who do you see?" is performed by McAnthony and his beautiful wife Tongryang and it is an honest and intimate conversation with God. She also wrote the song with him.

The next track titled "Flighty Heart" was co-written with Tongryang Ben-Ameh and has a very calm and hopeful energy and buttresses the central tone and message of the record. Throne Room has very talented vocalists and instrumentalists that come together to create an intricate tapestry of worship music I sincerely hope that more of the world gets the privilege of listening to.

Track 4, "Enough" is one of my favorite songs on this album. It is a message for everyone who finds it difficult to wrap their minds around the concept of unconditional love and the Grace that is freely available in the arms of Jesus.

Following this is "Alabaster" based on the story of the woman with the Alabaster box who spent a year of her wages to buy special perfume to wash the feet of Jesus. This woman is found in Luke 7:36-50. Her story is one of the most powerful stories of repentance and forgiveness, one that shows the kind heart of God.

Track 6 titled, "Jonah" is a powerful performance that presents the prayer Jonah made to God from the stomach of the whale that swallowed him when he tried to run from God's assignment. The refrain of this song could easily be a worship anthem on its own.

Track 7, "Home" in my opinion is the best vocal performance on this record. It tells the story of the prodigal son in the Bible found in Luke 15:11-32. McAnthony also delights listeners with a rap performance on this one keeping short and very sweet. This song was co-written with one of Nigeria's most talented guitarists, Umar Jawfu

Track 8, "Show me" is another vulnerable moment many believers face portrayed so elegantly in song and is an easy template to adopt when we pray.

Tracks 9, "Rest" is God's response to His children when they come in all honesty presenting their brokenness to Him. It is a promise in popular Bible scripture, Matthew 11:28 that says "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Track 10, "I'm Yours" was co-written with Paul Amuta who is also another formidable rising worship leader in the Nigerian Gospel music scene. It is an account of total surrender to God's sovereignty.

Track 11, "Let My Worship Rise" is a mellow performance that has a high potential of becoming another major worship anthem.

The end of the album comes with track 12, "Face of My Father" and is the ultimate hope of every believer; that in spite of the imperfections which come with life and being human, when we transition to the next life seeing the face of God The Father, is the ultimate reward for all we lived through.

Throne Room will be performing these songs live on April 9, 2023. Please follow their social media for more details about the event and time. It will also be streamed online for those of us in other countries who cannot be there in person.

What do you think, of this album? Please let me know in the comments. Until next time, Happy Listening!
