Maya stepped out the glass door with a shiver. A strong breeze swept through with such intensity it made her stop and regain her footing – November in the Windy City. Could be way worse, she reminded herself, taking a deep inhale before adjusting her mask. At least the sun’s still out, she thought gratefully.

This slight off-season tale goes like this: 'Twas the 10th day of Christmas, and all wasn't well in the North Pole. In the crack of dawn, the smell of fresh uprising had wafted higher than the aroma of Mrs. Claus's cookies. Santa had known this day would come, but this soon? Good thing he was prepared. He had a plan. Sure, the elves would need some convincing, but he could do that. He was Saint Nicholas, after all. With a deep breath, he fixed his hat one last time and entered his workshop.

Nurturing my mind and soul
2020 was taxing for the best of us. The constant bombardment of COVID news, divided politics, dwindling economy, scarce resources – it was rough. Like many others, I felt the fear, paranoia, and stress at a personal level. So as I bid adieu to the nightmare of a year, I vowed to take a much overdue pledge – to nurture my mind and soul.

Ahh, to be young! So full of energy, so high in spirit, so invincible. Unfortunately, that wasn’t me a decade ago – at least, not that specific day. Certainly me, nay, totally me on and off throughout my life, but not that day. You see, as a young woman in my early 20’s who had recently been diagnosed with Piriformis Syndrome, I wasn’t living my best life.
