Life, Death & Creation
A mother took in the scene in front of her, her emotions roiling, knowing if it was hard on her, it was even worse for her children. Her heart broke for them all. They stood heads bowed, shoulders slumped, and she could still hear the occasional hiccupping sob. She fought hard to supress her own. Before the small gathering was a plot of disturbed soil with a cairn of rocks piled on top. This would be the final resting place of their family member, Buddy, the beloved dog. She knelt, reached out and pulled her children into her. Together they all cried their pain.

The Jump
There is an excess of inspirational quotes out there. Literal thousands encouraging you to just go with it; to take the plunge, trust in the process, trust in yourself and that by doing so, you will succeed. There is nothing wrong with that however, they are only that. A collection of powerful words, sayings, mottos and word plays. They can be used in great ways, helping to gently coax a person out of their comfort zones (which I think is the real ‘C’ word these days) so that they may experience the richness the world has to offer. For me, personally, I try to live my life guided by such things yet I learned the hard way that gentle coaxing was not enough.

Scavengers Simplicity
Catori made her resting place away from the others in the Scavenger group, after declining the invitation to stay by the fire. She felt this small room would help hold some warmth while giving her a sense of privacy. Anxiety was constant life battle for Catori, but she had learned to cope with it. She knew that being with the others could help lessen the anxiety she was feeling, but she believed that was her burden, and she did not wish to burden to them. In her previous life when her mind and the weather became stormy, she would have curled up with a book and a cup of coffee. She would lose herself for hours in those pages while sipping the full and flavorful drink. She had always been more of an introvert and the twenty-year Ice Age had done little to coax her from that shell.
