NASA had launched the Apollo 11 mission, which aimed to land two astronauts on the moon and return them safely to Earth. On July 20th, astronaut Neil Armstrong took his famous first steps on the lunar surface, uttering the now-famous phrase, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
