Capturing Curiosity
In the heart of the Bronx, where vibrant young minds yearn to express themselves through the lens, I found my calling. Teaching photography to kids has been my passion, and with each class, I've learned just as much as I've imparted. But as I encourage my students to embrace the spontaneity of photography, I can't help but reflect on my own struggles with letting go and shooting from the heart.

From Stuffed Animals to Special Bonds
I've always felt an inexplicable connection with children who have special needs. As a child myself, I owned a collection of stuffed animals, and I'd meticulously arrange them in rows, imagining myself as their teacher. Among this plush menagerie, there was a bear named Moscow, bearing a broken eye and a ripped ear. I made it my mission to ensure that the other stuffed animals treated Moscow with extra care and kindness. Little did I know that these tender moments would ignite a lifelong passion for special education.

A Mother's Perfection
My mother had this indomitable presence, an unyielding hardness that defined her character. Even from the opposite end of our home, her forceful aura was palpable. Her world had a specific order, meticulously arranged to her exacting standards. Towels had to be perfectly aligned, untouched by any meddling hand. Her notes, a catalog of daily activities, doubled as a diary of her innermost anxieties.

Battling Inner Demons and Finding Love
I sat there, in the calming presence of the woman who had managed to settle my restless soul for a while. The chaos that had always haunted me was momentarily held at bay, but it wouldn't be long before my relentless demons caught up with me once again.

Brothers in Faith
As the day approached when my younger brother decided to embark on a path towards priesthood, I found myself at odds with a whirlwind of emotions. He believed he was being called, while I was convinced he was being brainwashed. I thought he was too young to make such a life-altering decision, one that would shape his entire future. The idea of him as a priest was challenging for me, as I grappled with the fear that every conversation would inevitably revolve around God and the constant unease that I would feel guilty around him.

Healing the Unseen Wounds
In the hushed corridors of a hospital room, where the sterile scent hung in the air and the soft hum of machines was the only companion, a tragedy unfolded. My sister, just four years old, lost her battle with leukemia. The memory is etched in my mind, a chapter from a life story I never expected to live.
