Walking Beside them. A Path of Compassion and Advocacy.
I took my three daughters to a kids festival, there were games, three bouncy houses, food and gaming trucks. One of my daughters Blue is autistic, shes 11 years old. My oldest daughter Samia is 14, she wasn’t interested in the festival at all. My baby girl Schwa who is 8 years old was ready for the fun as usual! When we arrived, boy was Blue excited, the bouncy house is all she wanted to do. Her eyes lit up and a huge smile came across her face. Schwa grabbed blues hand and they headed to the bouncy house running full speed with me tagging behind. When we got to the bouncy house, There was a long line and Blue began to try and jump in front and push her way though, so I said well blue you have to wait your turn, so while trying to wait blue was getting anxious and irritated. I told blue cmon we will come back. If you have an autistic child you already know this is a difficult situation and can be frustrating.

Autism is not the end it’s the beginning of a very special journey
When you have a child that’s autistic you never really know what’s going on inside of their brilliant minds but know its something very special. My blue doesn’t talk much accept to boss me around to get her favorite food request and activities of choice met. She spins much like a ballerina and when I ask blue what do you want to be when you grow up? I assume the reply will be a dancer but to my surprise she says an astronaut , this fills my heart with laughter and curiosity.

Woman indie Artist
Is there a open door for independent woman artist to be heard? I come across many women creatives that make dope original music and they are consistent with releasing new material but still never land a opportunity. Every creative makes music because it’s their passion but also they want to share it with the world and make a living from it. Though the music is released, there still seems to be a gate the artist can’t get through to reach the masses. Is it safe to say as a music artist you should just face the fact that your music may never cross over without a record label co- signing, or is it steps that can be taken to become a more successful artist that can actually live off their music. Music is such a powerful tool that when people listen it can actually change their mood and heal the mind body and spirit. If music is so powerful then so are the creators. What can a indie woman creative do to stand out and land larger scale opportunities? Keep creating good music, have faith and stay consistent a breakthrough will surely come.
