10 More Songs That Sound Surprisingly Good Slowed
Sometimes bops just sound better when the speed is taken down a notch. Last year, I introduced you to 10 Songs That Sound Surprisingly Good Slowed thanks to skilled YouTube editors. My little list surprisingly picked up more traction than I thought it would (thanks guys!) so I'm back on Vocal with more slowed songs to recommend. All of these come from my personal playlist, and they're equally fantastic for late-night grooving, relaxing, or crying.

Pick a Monster and I’ll Treat You With a PlaylistTop Story - September 2023
Calling all monsters! (And mortal music-lovers who wish they were monsters.) Have you ever been out partying with your fellow creatures of the night only to have a disappointing selection of tunes? There's nothing worse than getting yourself dolled up for a blood-sucking masquerade ball or undead graveyard smash only to dance to rehashings of "Monster Mash" and "The Addams Family" theme song. Is the DJ playing Michael Jackson's "Thriller" for the upteenth time? It's no use wasting your immortality or afterlife on cliché Halloween tracks.

10 Songs That Sound Surprisingly Good Slowed
You know that feeling when you're chilling in your bedroom late at night, you're all in your feels, and you just want something slow, deep, and rad to listen to? Look no further than YouTube song edits. There are some really talented people on the internet who are able to take famous recordings and mold them into new works of art. It's an impressive skill.

covid ruined our valentine's day. here's my coping playlist. Top Story - February 2021
I've been on Earth for twenty-two years, and never in my life have I experienced a good Valentine's Day. I don't seem to mesh with the holiday. In elementary school, kids celebrated by handing out candies...which was cool until you realized those candies were Nerds or nasty conversation hearts that taste like chalk. In high school, all my besties had boyfriends save for me. Valentine's Day was the one day a year I couldn't hang with them after school.

Jimi Hendrix & a New National AnthemSecond Place in 2020 Anthem Challenge
I write this article the day before my country's birthday. With everything happening within our fifty states, I find it difficult to plan for tomorrow. Thinking about sparklers, frankfurters, fireworks and cheer makes me feel like I'm ignoring many elephants in the room. The 4th is the best holiday to celebrate outside, yet this year we need to stay home. Additionally, anti-racist protests demonstrate that while the Declaration calls for "certain unalienable rights," not everyone in this country enjoys those rights equally. How can we celebrate freedom in America when not everyone is truly free? I don't know about you, but it feels hypocritical to me.

Cinematic Exercise
If you're like me, the very thought of doing a workout makes you shrivel up into a ball and lie still for several hours. It's exhausting to think about, and even more exhausting when you're running down the street or lifting dumbbells in the air. The tiredness, the sweat, the time it takes to finish a drill...it doesn't seem like it's worth the effort.

Musical Meditation - A Playlist for Peaceful Walking
For some people, meditation looks like sitting still with your legs criss-crossed and chanting "om" while paying attention to your body. For others, it's practicing yoga or focusing on a candle flame for many minutes. If you're like me (and I'm so sorry you're like me), none of these traditional meditation techniques have an effect on you. Sitting still and breathing heavily puts me to sleep, and my stress only worsens when I try to strike yoga poses perfectly - so I don't make the effort!

A Quarantine Mixtape, Made Just For YouFirst Place in Quarantine Playlist Challenge
If you're like me, binging episodes of Hulu's High Fidelity to distract yourself from COVID-19 chaos, you know how delicate the art of mixtaping is. You can't just mishmash a bunch of catchy tunes together...there are RULES. Do it right, and you can tell a great musical story through other people's creative genius.

Separate Ways
“I heard a woman becomes herself the first time she speaks without permission.” -Denice Frohman Everyone knew that when I grew up, I was going to be an opera singer. Close my eyes and I'm back there: thirteen years old, second floor of a renovated garage, a block away from campus. The lemon-yellow walls made her happy tears shine a deep marigold. I had just finished singing the Ave Maria with her. It was the end of another voice lesson.
