The Great Divide
As I wend my way through the chaotic streets of Minneapolis, I think how blessed I am to be here. There are people everywhere: sitting in doorways, asleep on park benches and steps, asking for coins or simply a sandwich. I see defeated faces, hopeful eyes and hands reaching out in need. Don't be fooled ~ these people have more to offer me than I have to offer them. When a wrinkled face lights up and overwhelms me with a smile I know that I am where I ought to be.

Large Marge
Large Marge was a force to be reckoned with. It wasn't due to her physical presence by any means, she was a mere five feet tall; she was simply overflowing with ideas, opinions and character. She was my mother-in-law, and she remained a close friend even after her son ~ my late husband, died twenty-two years ago.

The Art of Feeling Hollow
Oh, those bittersweet teenage years...so long ago; yet hearing a song from the 80's will snap me back in a blink of an eye. Finding a tune that spoke to you was practically the be-all and end-all of living at that age. I was lucky to have a musically adventurous older sister to introduce me to many off-the-beaten-track musicians, which has fueled my search for great artists throughout my life. (Without a little direction I probably would have spent my high-school years listening to KQRS out of Minneapolis, and I would never have found alternative musical avenues.)

Growing Wild in the Backyard
If you had to choose one word to describe Adelaide, that word would most definitely be 'curious'. She was by far the most curious child living on Oak Street. Although she was only three, she was determined to experience life to the fullest extent, which meant her mum and daddy had to keep a careful eye on her.

Hippie Chic
I was a child in the 60's. When I was young, I couldn't wait to grow up and dress like a hippie ~ I didn't actually know what being one involved, but they made it look so cool! I loved the whole look, from beads and bangles to bangs, from headbands to huaraches. One of my sisters somehow scored a leather jacket with fringes and another one a fringed leather vest, but the closest I ever came were the moccasins I got every year in South Dakota.

Daybreak
As I travel through my fifties, I am feeling a bit worse for the wear. I'm tattered, worn and often having trouble telling up from down. Luckily, I tend to have a hopeful personality and still believe that there are many good things coming my way.

Just Another Day In the Life
If you are thinking of becoming my friend, there is one thing I must confess about myself: I am absolutely capable of causing an embarrassing, very public scene; often and through no direct fault of my own. Er...I mean I suppose I am somewhat at fault because it is a fact that I am very, very clumsy.

Are You Camera-Ready?
Imagine living in a society in which your next door neighbor, your Uber driver or random citizens reading your social media posts can affect what school you may attend, what career path you may choose or whether you can travel to visit far-off relatives and friends. In China, this is becoming the norm for the entire population.
