Fighting For Friendship
One of the best things about male to male relationships that I've experienced is our ability to fight into friendship. In 2019, I embarked with three other men to compete in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. A 3,000 mile transatlantic ocean row, to provide data for research into PTSD treatments for veterans. That was our mission. While each crewmember holds a special place in my heart, my friendship with Luke is far and away the most treasured piece of that row.

Memorial Day
Robert and his wife Emily were up early today. Each year they hosted the annual neighborhood Memorial Day BBQ, a special point of pride for Robert who had served for 8 years in the Marine Corps. Those days were long behind him and he had settled into his new career as an Operations Manager at the nearby vehicle manufacturing facility. His wife was an adjunct professor at the local community college.

Fire and Death
It was sometime around 2014-2015. McQueeny Volunteer Fire Department got toned out for a structure fire and I immediately dropped my fork, paid the bill at the restaurant and made my way to my car where my bunker gear sat, ready in my trunk. The young lady I was with was slightly nervous as I recall, I didn't have time to take her home, fire doesn't wait. I sped, we weren't supposed to as we were in Personally Owned Vehicles (POVs) and we had no sirens or lights to ensure it was safe, but I did anyways.
