Why Oskar from "Let the Right One In" Still Gets To Me
We all have our handful of movies that we can always go back to. No matter how many times we watch them, somehow they never get old. When you first see one of those movies, there's this feeling that I really wish I could properly describe in words. The closest I can probably get is feeling captivated, engrossed, and fascinated by the story happening in front of you. One of those movies for me is Let the Right One In. If you haven't seen the movie or have read the book, Let the Right One In is about a boy named Oskar who meets a new tenant in his apartment complex, a young girl named Eli. The two of them start a friendship and as Oskar learns more about Eli he has to make choices about who she is and how he feels about it. Beyond all of that he also has to survive a school where he's constantly bullied and humiliated. That's one of the chief reasons I connected with Oskar as a character. It's because at some point in my life (and this is real cliche of me to say) I was Oskar.

Rambles About Soul Skating (and Why Disney Channel Movies Were My Jam)
The year was 1998 and there was nothing I looked forward to more than rushing home and watching the latest Disney Channel movie. My childhood wasn't that awesome, I guess. Then again, it was pretty awesome because these movies were my jam. We're talking classics such as Smart House, Luck of the Irish, and of course Brink! which was all about rollerblading and friendship or something along those lines.

Harley Quinn Steals Mad Max's Style in This MUST-SEE Cosplay!
Shantel Knight a.k.a. Zombie Bit Me is a cosplayer from Ontario who, back in March, posted a couple of photos of her Road Warrior Harley Quinn that blew me away. I wasn't a member of this wonderful community at the time but I figured with the whole Mad Max and Suicide Squad thing buzzing around the Internet that now would be a good time to share with you the amazing work of this cosplayer. Because let me tell you, it is...

An attempt that fell short.
'The Age of Adaline' starring Blake Lively looked like it was going to be an epic romance that would sweep me up and take me on a journey with a woman of many years. What I got instead was a disjointed narrative that felt like it didn't quite know where it was going. The challenge of the movie going in is portraying the life of a woman who has lived for a century and trying to cram that into a 112 minute run time. How it approached that challenge was putting the viewer through 20+ solid minutes of outside narration and a bevy of flashback scenes.

Pick Up Sticks: Reconnecting With Filipino Martial Arts
It's eight o'clock in the evening and I'm tired from work, but I'm standing in the dimly lit parking lot of my old community college with a bag of rattan sticks hanging on my shoulder. They're heavier than I remember, but the last time I picked up that bag was probably 2010 and maybe six years worth of dust was weighing it down.

Russia Goes Old School With Professional Knight Fights
Did you know that professional armored combat is a thing? It is and it is glorious. M-1 Global, an MMA promotion company based in St. Petersburg, Russia, announced last year that they would be officially launching M-1 Medieval. These fights feature full contact single combat in full armor which is pretty awesome. That last sentiment wasn't very objective, but you're going to have to forgive me for being excited. After all, what's not to like about fights that look like this?

I Got To Play Every Ubisoft Game at E3 and Here's What I'm Excited About
Another great year for #E3 has come and gone, but I actually got to go to this one — thanks to being part of the Now Loading community. A lot of games were played and a lot of standing in line was done. It was as much an exercise in patience and leg strength as it was a time to get hyped about some of the biggest AAA games and developers.

Here Are 10 Great Anime And Gaming Cosplays From FanimeCon 2017
I was recently in San Jose attending FanimeCon 2017 and that entire thing was wild. As usual, there was a lot of great cosplay to be had. People came in droves wearing their absolute best and it was great just to be able to shoot with some of them.

D.Va Cosplayer Reveals The Harsh Truth About Being A POC Cosplayer
I love cosplay with all my heart. That's why I've become absolutely obsessed with photographing cosplayers and showing them in the best light possible. To me, cosplay is one of the coolest forms of self-expression and love for a character. The amount of work that people put into their cosplay absolutely blows my mind. The reception to someone pulling off a great cosplay is, typically, an outpouring of love and support. That's what I dig about the cosplay community, to be honest. I re-entered the world of cosplay and conventions with the idea in my head that we're all nerds and we're all here to have a good time.

This $900 Chun-Li Figure From Street Fighter Will Blow You Away
Street Fighter has been around been around for as long as I can remember. My childhood was built on being at the arcade and seeing a line build up while one person absolutely dominates the machine. Each iteration seems to inspire even more impressive feats and along the way its built a strong fan base. The fanbase is strong enough that some of its most hardcore fans are willing to shell out exorbitant amounts of money for any and all merchandise related to the franchise. Luckily for them, companies like Pop Culture Shock Collectibles are here to serve. Their latest offering is a 30" Chun-Li figure made with exquisite detail and a price that might make your eyes water.

Why 'Xbox Game Pass' Wanting To Be the 'Netflix of Gaming' Makes No Sense
We're living in a pretty connected world in 2017. That you're probably reading this on your cell phone while you're pretending to do things at work is a testament to that. Faster internet speeds and increased device connectivity has given us the opportunity to have near unlimited media consumption at our fingertips. That's why industry shifting platforms like YouTube and Netflix are growing steadily and will probably keep growing as the years roll on. As long as they keep up with the times, that is.
