What does a 'new normal' even look like?
The year 2020 was the year that students and educators underwent an unforeseeable change of daily routine. As the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) began to persist, universities had to take immediate action and issue stay-at-home orders for students, faculty, and staff to prevent the spread of the virus. For educators, this meant that they could no longer have face-to-face contact and interaction with students. For students, this meant having to relocate back to their respective hometowns and create a learning environment for them to finish out the remainder of their Spring semester. Hands-on learning and training had been transferred to an online, distance learning medium—a setup in which some educators and students were underprepared.

Are You Mentally Exhausted?
As we reflect on the last year or so of, you know, the “C” word, something that has been brought up a lot is how mentally and physically drained we’ve all become. And I won’t get you started on the mounds of e-vites you’ve received to attend a helpful and impactful virtual event.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta LacksTop Story - April 2021
As we think about the progress we’ve made in the realm of science and technology, it also raises the question of how ethics and morals play a part in those developments. The HeLa cell has provided a great deal of scientific advancements, from proving phenomenons such as cloning to supporting the creation of vaccines, to providing further proof around the spread of viruses and other illnesses. It is the first known cell line that was immortal, having the strength to withstand cell transportations via postal mail, as well as mitigating polio disease. As researchers, scientists, and medical professionals alike praise their peers and colleagues for their contributions to the development of science using these unique cells, there seems to have been a name that was left out as the main source of these discoveries, and that’s Henrietta Lacks.

The Power of Mentorship and Investing In Others
It was early in my professional career where I decided to pick up graphic design. I loved to write, draw and edit - but I didn’t know how to merge these talents and use the software that would allow me to evolve with the ever-changing digital landscape. I wasn’t enrolled in any design classes early in my college career, so I took the liberty to find these learning resources online. Although they were helpful, I wanted to seek the help of a peer or professional to help me implement these learnings in real-life projects. That’s where I met Wayne, who became one of my mentors at Syracuse University.
