Beckett (2021) Movie Review
“Beckett” is a film that aspires to be a tense, paranoid thriller in the vein of classic 1970s films like “The Parallax View” and “Three Days of the Condor”. However, it fails to live up to this ambition, instead delivering an uninspiring and unengaging story about an American tourist named Beckett, played by John David Washington, who finds himself in a dangerous situation in Greece after a car accident kills his girlfriend and leaves him injured. The film's attempt to combine international politics, corrupt government officials, kidnapping, and last-minute heroics falls flat, resulting in a forgettable movie experience.

Don't Breathe 2 (2021) Movie Review
“Don’t Breathe 2” takes audiences on a wild ride through the unexpected story of Gulf War veteran Norman Nordstrom, who was first introduced in the 2016 original hit film, “Don’t Breathe”. The sequel takes place eight years after the events of the first movie, and this time, the story revolves around Norman’s relationship with a young girl named Phoenix whom he has raised as his own daughter. The film introduces new characters, new twists, and a new location, but it still maintains the thrilling, intense, and darkly humorous atmosphere that made the first film such a success.

Stillwater (2021) Movie Review
Bill Baker is a man of red-state stereotypes who lives in Oklahoma. He listens to old-school country music while driving his pickup truck between manual labor gigs, and he never misses an opportunity to watch his favorite college football team. Bill’s house is run-down, but he keeps a couple of guns there, which seems natural to him. Despite his rough exterior, Bill is a complex man with many contradictions.

Wrath of Man (2021) Movie Review
Guy Ritchie's directorial venture, "Wrath of Man," is a hard-hitting, dark, and brutal crime thriller that showcases Jason Statham at his meanest. The movie is a far cry from Ritchie's previous works, which were characterized by a light-hearted, jumpy, and busy tone. Instead, Ritchie presents a neo-noir film, filled with tough and violent men, with H, the main character, being the darkest of them all. Adapted from the 2004 French film "Le Convoyeur," "Wrath of Man" is a time-shifting crime thriller that keeps the viewers on the edge of their seats with its unpredictable plot twists and turns.

Old Henry (2021) Movie Review
Tim Blake Nelson delivers a stellar performance in the title role of the second fiction feature directed by Potsy Ponciroli. His convincing portrayal of a forlorn and exhausted man with a hangdog expression is one of the movie's most outstanding features. As the story unfolds, viewers are taken on a journey through the life of Henry, a man who has experienced numerous hardships in his past and is now living in the territory of Oklahoma, farming the land.

Red Notice (2021) Movie Review
Rawson Marshall Thurber’s “Red Notice” had all the ingredients of a blockbuster action-adventure movie. With a talented cast and exotic locations, it seemed like a surefire hit. However, the film ultimately failed to deliver on its promise due to a lack of personality and human touch, resulting in a product that feels more like a content algorithm than a work of art.

The Card Counter (2021) Movie Review
Paul Schrader, the writer and director of the critically acclaimed "First Reformed" from 2017, has returned with a new film called "The Card Counter," starring Oscar Isaac in the title role, with Tiffany Haddish and Tye Sheridan as supporting characters. While this film is not a greatest hits package nor a restatement of Schrader's principles, it still has elements of both. Schrader is known for his use of Transcendental Style in Film, which is a concept he developed in his thesis-turned-seminal-film-text. In the book, he discusses three filmmakers: Dreyer, Ozu, and Bresson, with Bresson being the one Schrader cribs from almost obsessively.

Copshop (2021) Movie Review
Amidst the pandemic, director Joe Carnahan and actor-producer Frank Grillo have been quite productive, having unveiled their second film, "Copshop," since March. Unlike their previous film, "Boss Level," which had a sci-fi twist, "Copshop" is more realistic but still features the explosive action Carnahan is known for. The film follows Teddy Muretto (Grillo), a criminal who finds himself in danger from various people and decides that jail is the safest place for him. He gets himself arrested by assaulting police officer Valerie Young (Alexis Louder) during a drunken brawl at a casino wedding.

No Time to Die (2021) Movie Review
The highly anticipated 25th James Bond film, “No Time to Die,” brings a new chapter in the life of one of the most iconic film characters of all time. With the expectation that this will be the last time we see Daniel Craig as Bond, the film faces the difficult task of providing a sense of finality to this chapter while also hinting at the future of the spy with a license to kill. The movie is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, and although it has moments of robust direction and quick action beats, it ultimately plays it too safe and too familiar from start to finish.

The Unforgivable (2021) Movie Review
Netflix’s “The Unforgivable” is a movie that tells three stories in one. Each story is worse than the last, and the film leaves viewers questioning why it was made in the first place. The movie stars Sandra Bullock, who is also the producer, alongside great veterans like Vincent D’Onofrio, W. Earl Brown, and Viola Davis, who have no excuse for their performances. Davis, in particular, has questionable scenes with throwaway lines that are out of place and jarring.
