Salmon with Lemon Butter Sauce
all right hi guys today we're gonna make some salmon we're gonna do real quick preparation using just a couple of ingredients we're gonna season the fish we're gonna sear it in a pan and then we're gonna make a little sauce with some lemon and some compound butter let me show you how it's done we're using our house seasoning we want to season it from up high that way it just kind of falls away and doesn't get clumpy in one spot we used about a tablespoon for both both fillets of fish we'll bring the fish over here to the tow we're gonna cook it in this pan I've already got it set to medium we're gonna add a little bit of avocado oil this is just gonna help to sear the fish and keep it from sticking well know it's ready because we'll start to get a little bit of Sheen on the on the oil it'll start to move around in the pan I've got another pan over here getting water and to that we're gonna reduce some lemon juice and fold in some butter and that'll be our sauce all right what I'm seeing on the oil is I'm seeing it starts to ripple just a little bit that lets me know that it's getting hot so then we'll add the fish in then we're gonna go flesh going to go flesh side down into the pan first and that's your presentation side because we're gonna serve it skin side down all right while the fish is cooking we'll we'll start making our sauce over here in the other pan it's just a warm pan we've got it set to medium I'm going to turn it up to medium high we're gonna take a lemon squeeze the juice in the pan and on me but in the pan invest all of that foaming is telling me that the pan is nice and hot and that the water is evaporating out okay we're gonna take some of this compound butter and we're gonna begin to velvet the sauce this is cold right now and as that melts into there it's gonna begin to emulsify a little bit and it'll it'll make what's a sauce now you've got to be careful at this point because you're not trying to boil the butter but you want to use the heat to melt it and that's what's going to give it a nice flavor it's incorporating with the lemon juice and making a nice velvety texture and if you see these little streaks in there you want to make sure that you have a couple of those whenever you're finished because if not your sauce is probably going to break on you now at this point I've got most of the butter melted we've got a little clump there I'm gonna remove it from heat I'm starting to get some boiling we're gonna remove it from the heat and allow the heat to dissipate in the pan and that's it your sauce pretty much is ready we'll pour this on top of the fish now we're gonna take a spatula and flip the fish if you notice right here on the side you can see how the color is changing you can really tell on this piece right here how there's a difference in color and what you want to do is click it until this all becomes opaque so we'll let that go we probably looked at about three minutes away from turn down the heat a little bit to medium I don't burn or you don't want to get a birth taste in there and the sauce the sauce has helped together pretty nicely 1:38 in the middle all right we're gonna get some carryover cooking is its small piece of fish we'll remove it we'll place it on our platter over here we'll take this butter sauce and just scoop it on hey guys you wanna try some fish you like salmon we're making a video you want to let me know if it's any good alright fresh fresh off the grill or off the pan we did a little butter sauce and let me get you some utensils I've got some spoons right up here be straight amber tour so we've got a nice pink middle they're part of the flavors delicious thank you perfect that's what I like enjoy thanks guys you want to try it and the lemon with the butter and the Christmas it's just I'm getting barren that's I love my job

Are you looking for an easy and delicious appetizer to start your meal? then give this restaurant-quality greek salad a try! plus I'll show you a quick method for pickling the onions to enhance the dishes flavor unless you're a fan of raw onions one way to make the flavor more interesting is to pickle the vegetables the process only takes 15 minutes and makes a huge flavor impact cut off both ends of a red onion make sure to leave the root end intact so it doesn't fall apart when you cut it make a shallow cut and then pull off the first layer so you can peel off the skin make a small cut down the side and then place that on the cutting board this way the onion's not going to roll around cut into 1/8-inch thick slices when you pull the layers apart you're going to have these nice circles, we need a 1/2 cup the pickling solution is just two ingredients in a small bowl, I'm going to add a 1/4 cup of red wine vinegar and 2 tablespoons of honey you could also use granulated sugar or pure maple syrup if you prefer a more tangy flavor you can omit the sweetener however I like the balance of flavors add in a 1/2 cup of the sliced onions do your best to submerge as many of the rings under the liquid as possible as the vegetables marinate the sulfurous compounds are going to mellow out due to the acids in the vinegar I let this sit for about 15 minutes and I'll check in about halfway through and just stir it so that all of the slices have contact with the liquid I have these beautiful crisp romaine hearts I'm going to clean them before cutting rinse the lettuce under cool running water shake to remove excess water and dry with clean towels I've washed and dried the lettuce to remove any dirt or contamination from the surface and between the leaves find the largest leaf and have that facing up, cut into strips lengthwise 3/4-inch thick then turn over and cut 3/4-inch strips again now cut into 3/4-inch thick pieces I like the crispiness of this lighter colored bottom end so make sure you keep that in too we need 8 cups for this recipe I've got a classic combination of mix-ins that I'm going to prepare that's going to add a nice contrast of flavors and textures but the salad is really easy to customize if you want to switch things up I have an English cucumber the skin is really thin so you don't have to peel it, slice off the ends then cut it into 4 pieces slice the cucumber in half lengthwise and then cut into quarters, turn and line them up, slice into 1/4-inch thick pieces the seeds are small so you don't have to scoop them out, we need 1 cup grab some ripe juicy tomatoes these are vine-ripened so I'm going to take them off the stem you can use your favorite tomatoes like a Roma or Campari whatever's in season slice them in half lengthwise then cut into 1/2-inch thick wedges this is going to add a nice sweet juiciness to the salad, we need 1 cup to cut the bell pepper trim off both ends cut in half lengthwise then carefully remove the inside of the pepper and the seeds this is gonna add a nice sweet and mild peppery taste without the heat, cut into 3/4-inch thick strips if you don't like bell peppers you can also use Pepperoncini's line them up and cut into 3/4-inch dice, we need 3/4 cup you can't have a Greek salad without some tangy and creamy feta cheese cut these into little cubes about a 1/4-inch thick that way they don't completely fall apart when we're mixing turn and cut into 1/4-thick cubes I love the briny flavor of the cheese you need 4 ounces to build the salad I have the 8 cups of lettuce add 1 cup of the diced English cucumber, 1 cup of the tomato wedges, 3/4 quarter cups of bell pepper, add 1/2 cup of the drained pickled onions add 1/2 cup of pitted kalamata olives, and 4 ounces of the cubed feta cheese I'm going to save a few cubes to use as garnish for later now set this aside to make the dressing I'm going to start by zesting a lemon the skin has these aromatic citrus oils that are fat-soluble so when you add them to the dressing it's going to dissolve in the olive oil and add a lot of dimension oh it smells really good already we need 1 teaspoon to juice the lemon, cut it in half, place it inside of the juicer and give it a good squeeze it's going to add a nice bright acidity to the vinaigrette we need 1 tablespoon to add an earthy bite to the dressing mince some fresh garlic cut off each end give the clove a smash this makes it easy to remove the skin use the fanning motion to mince into really small pieces wait to mince the garlic because the sulfurous allicin compounds in the ingredient is going to build as it's being cut down so the longer it sits the stronger the flavor will be and we don't want it to be overpowering, we need 2 teaspoons in a medium bowl, add 3 tablespoons of red wine vinegar, 1 teaspoon of lemon zest, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of dijon mustard, 1 teaspoon of honey the honey and mustard are both light emulsifiers so they're going to help the dressing stay suspended for longer 2 teaspoons of minced garlic, 1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano, its gonna add a nice herbaceous note, a 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt, and a 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper just whisk this until everything is combined to make a properly emulsified dressing you're going to slowly add 1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil while continuously whisking take your time with this process you want the oil to form small droplets so it's suspended in the liquid and over time will create a thickened consistency we want the dressing to cling to all of the ingredients if you add the oil all in at one time it's just going to coalesce together and create an oily layer on top this oil and vinegar dressing is a semi-permanent mixture which means it's not going to stay emulsified indefinitely so make sure if you don't dress the salad right away whisk it up before you add it on top this looks good it's clinging to the whisk which means it's going to grab onto the ingredients drizzle on about half of the dressing I like to serve the rest on the side for guests to add on later gently toss to combine if any of the heavier ingredients start to settle just bring them back to the top you're looking for an even coating on the leaves and also on the mix and ingredients you don't want the cheese to break down too much just a little bit wow this looks really good right before serving, I like to add a little bit more cheese on top then sprinkle with a little bit of extra dried oregano to make this a complete meal I would serve the salad with this roasted chicken recipe right here it makes for a healthy pairing .

The Best Smartphones for 2023
this year has finally shaken up the smartphone markets we've had new contenders phones that have vastly improved as well as past Giants who've just fallen off the radar so because it's been such a big one I have custom designed 10 different trophies to award to the winners of our 10 different categories all leading up to the single best smartphone in the market right now and the winner of this giant thing so let's start with the most improved award which company has made the biggest jump from their last phone and it has to be Google look at this Beast of a trophy I'm so proud of this when their pixel 6 launched last year it gave us this glimpse of something special a bit of never before seen software magic but it was kind of hard to appreciate it when the phone was plagued with reception issues bugs and glitches all round a wonky fingerprint scanner and some pretty grainy looking video recording I can see pixels in the pixel so considering all of that I am genuinely shocked that in one year they fixed all of those issues with the pixel 7s and that allows you to focus on what actually makes them so special things like the Lively animated software and the incredible photo processing this award is all yours Google so then we've got kind of the opposite award what's the most timeless phone or in other words which phone from last year still holds up the best this year for which the iPhone 13 feels like a bit of a no-brainer partly because it's still a solid phone it's fast it's got good battery and it's got four more years of full-on software support from now and it's partly the fact that it's replacement the iPhone 14 is almost the same phone now I am someone who would normally always side with paying a little bit more to get the latest but in this particular case for an extra hundred dollars you'd only be getting a camera that's very slightly better a chip that's basically the same and then a battery life that's actually slightly worse or leading the iPhone 13 to set as a prime disc counted sweet spot phone right now but what if you like it tiny I've got some good news for you that's right it's time for the best small phone award I've even got this mini trophy made just for it oh that's adorable and this one's actually been really easy for me because yeah you've got great small phones like the pixel 7 like the Samsung Galaxy s22 but the Asus Zenfone 9 is not just even smaller than all of them but it's also doing that while basically being a top of the line Flagship it's got the fastest chip you can get up to 16 gigs of RAM a really responsive screen and even a six axis gimbal stabilized camera which lets it take some of the smoothest Video available on a smartphone oh yeah and on top of everything else it has a headphone jack now you're just showing off Asus but this trophy is rightfully yours the Samsung Z flip 4 is also one of my favorite small phones given that the thing can literally fold in half but you do have to pay about one and a half times the price for that luxury so it's not for everyone speaking of foldables though if you've already decided that this is the route that you want to go down then who do you pick given that Oppo is now making foldables Vivo is making foldables xiaomi's making foldables well I have to say I think that as of right now Oppo is the one who currently has the best foldable Hardware they're the only ones who currently have a shape that makes sense in both folded form where it's basically a slightly podgy but pretty normal feeling thrown and then unfolded where it's a tablet that's actually widescreen and you can watch videos on whilst almost eliminating the crease then you've got xiaomi who's got by far the thinnest foldable to the point where even when it's folded up the thing is barely thicker than a normal single layered phone but then Samsung is the one who has the best foldable software and really if you're going to spend over fifteen hundred dollars on Hardware then I would say that nothing is more important than software that lets you best take advantage of it like this taskbar at the bottom is an actual game changer I'm flying through all of my most recent and most used apps and you can even save combinations that you'd normally want to open at the same time plus the thing that seals the deal for Samsung's foldables is the availability this is changing and I'm really excited about it but for now most other companies have only released their foldables in China more as a proof of concept before going full-on global mass production I can't wait to see what this table looks like when we've got all the trophies out I'm really excited about this next one this the gaming awards for the last six months I've been absolutely addicted to this phone game called Bloons Tower Defense it looks simple but as you get further into the game the amount of particles on screen gets completely out of control to the point where it pushes your phone to its absolute limit and so I've been keeping an extra eye out for a phone that can actually handle it and there's any really three globally available contenders there's the iPhone 14 pro which is great because Apple's a16 chip is basically the most powerful thing you can get on any smartphone and that games on Apple tend to be a bit more optimized than games on Android but it doesn't quite win it for me the phone gets hot after a period of time it crashes when you really really push it and it's also just not the most comfortable thing to hold for hours at a time there's the red magic 7s Pro which is a really tempting package being one of the only gaming phones with a borderless display with also really powerful hardware for the 800 you get it for there's definitely a place for this one but you also kind of get what you pay for what you gain in Hardware you lose in software support you'll only get most likely one year of major Android updates Plus in order to get this bezel's design they've had to use an under-display camera which is just not quite there yet you can actually see the pixel arrangement of the screen in front of the camera on the light behind me so the phone that I think really deserves the win here so heavy the Rog phone 6 Pro it's pretty much halfway in between red Magic's philosophy of let's just throw some stupidly high-end specs together and see what happens and the iPhone which is meticulously planned out and highly optimized and what that leads you to is really powerful hardware and great cooling that's also had some care put into it on the software front and that makes it one of the only gaming phones that doesn't feel like gaming is its sole purpose it's just a general multimedia Powerhouse with also the best speakers and the best battery of any mainstream device no biggie and if you're enjoying this video and this lovely little awards ceremony we've put together then a sub to the channel would be game changing what if you don't want to spend a thousand dollars though well the way that it tends to work in the phone market is that the lower down you go on the budget ladder the more dominated the market becomes by xiaomi and Oppo or more specifically the spin-off companies that they've created because these guys focus on a higher volume of sales as opposed to profit per unit they're the only companies who even consider it worth it to pack in genuinely strong Hardware into these sub 300 packages like this guy the OnePlus Nord ce2 cringes it sounds this is one of the first times that I think a phone has genuinely held up to its own tagline their page describes it as a little more than you'd expect and whether it's performance or charging speed or the screen you can feel it here you've also got real me who I would say are even more militant were just cramming in every spec that they possibly can for prices that you didn't see coming and they tend to pair that with these incredibly bright bold designs that I personally find delightful but I could also see how you might think they look like toys the phone that just edits it out though and for me the winner of 2022 budget smartphone of the year is the Poco X4 Pro and we've even got a budget font to show for him it's got the spec X it's got the design and it also prioritizes battery life which is just one of those consumer friendly moves that I want to see more and more companies doing these trophies are so cool you've managed to get the separate elevation of each different part of the camera module and now just before we get to the best Flagship and the overall phone of the year we've got a really competitive lineup of mid-ranges this time around we talked about the pixel 7 that just goes above and beyond there's the 2022 iPhone SE the only phone at this price to actually give you full Flagship performance the Poco F4 which is a glowing example of how capable apocal phone can be when you give the company more budget to work with Samsung's mid-range phones which have felt like a bit of a return to form after a few years of some not so great offerings but I'm not giving the award to any of these phones this award is going to a new Contender a company who's just entered the smartphone market and considering that has hit a complete home run I'm talking about the nothing phone one it's got intriguing design Reliable Software and cameras and more noticeably a level of attention to detail that you only get from an ambitious company trying to prove themselves in an unforgiving Market I'm genuinely excited to see what is coming next from these guys alrighty it's Flagship time and what I've decided to do is to split this into best iPhone Flagship and their best Android Flagship because let's face it most people have already decided what platform they're going to go for so if your iPhone then the best iPhone Flagship this is going to blow your mind it's the latest iPhone the 14 pro and the 14 pro Max they've got fantastic cameras blindingly bright displays and even though I have turned off the new always on display feature and even though the battery has taken a slight hit from last year they are still undeniably the best iPhones ever made and then while we're at it if you are in the market for iPhones but don't want to spend that much money then here is my advice the iPhone 14 plus is a good unique option that gives you remarkable battery life for noticeably less money at 899 the normal sized iPhone 14 probably isn't worth it for 799 if you're considering that and I would instead get the incredibly similar iPhone 13 for 699 and if you want to spend less than that then my recommendation would be instead of going for the 429 iPhone SE which is a pretty compromised screen and Battery to just go used or refurbished and get an iPhone 12. there's a lot more options on the Android end because while not every company wants to make budget phones everyone does want to make flagships that's where you actually earn some sizable profit so you've got every brand competing together Samsung Vivo Sony Oppo xiaomi OnePlus and you know what this isn't a super popular opinion but I actually rate the OnePlus 10 Pro quite a lot it's not as groundbreaking as some of their earlier flagships but the smartphone market is quite an equalizing system meaning that when a phone is unpopular you'll find that it's priced very quickly tumbles to try and correct that and that results in situations like this where you have a near top spec Android phone and yet you can find this on the official store for 699 brand new which is a bargain obviously there's Samsung 2 which is the default option for a lot of Android users for a reason and while I would probably skip the standard s22 for its weaker battery life the s22 plus is a very reliable all-rounder and then the s22 ultra is kind of like the everything button every 2022 smartphone feature insane camera zoom built-in stylus long lasting battery it just has all of it not to mention Vivo and xiaomi who are also both just killing it right now they have probably the two best phones for photography on the market but the lack of availability means that there's a decent chance you would have to import and so the smartphone that is actually taking home this trophy for the best Android phone of 2022 is the Google pixel 7 Pro it is the easiest Flagship to recommend for two reasons one that it's incredibly simple and simple to set up with a fast transfer adapter in the box simple to use with software that's both intuitive and filled with helpful tutorials and also simple to take incredible photos with with a camera that doesn't overload you with options but instead just does all the hard work without you even realizing and then two it's 899 which is 100 to 200 cheaper than most top-end Flagship phones if you're a company watching this by the way then please do ask for these trophies they are all yours so who wins this then who has really thought about the user who has cut the things that perhaps didn't matter as much who is going above and beyond in terms of delivering value to the consumer well in my eyes the answer is again Google pixel 7 Pro and you have this trophy to show for it I've seen a few people say that the 599 base pixel 7 is better value but I genuinely think that the pro has more than enough perks to justify the 300 difference so let's say that you do end up buying one of these best phones of the year the case defy bounce is one of the best cases to protect it with the company figured out that 70 of phones when they fall hit the ground on one of their corners and it's when all the force is concentrated into a small area like that that you're most likely to damage it so they've created specialized air cavities in these bounce Corners they're inspired by Air Max sneaker culture and they're there to add rigidity and create structural support and it's kind of insane because this combined with the ecoshock material makes this bounce case drop proof all the way up to 21.3 feet or in other words six times military grade protection at this point you'll be having to try to break your phone they've got over 2 000 designs to pick from support for straps so you don't drop it in the first place and the cherry on top is that this entire case is made from recycled older cases .

protein is crucial among the macronutrients it helps you preserve muscle mass it's the most potent thereof because it's protein is a muscle mass is protein and this is sort of a side thing that's a little bit trivial but protein has the highest energetic cost of processing within the body and so um in you know in theory you take a a diet that's a hundred percent protein then your body will spend about 30 percent of those calories just trying to process it and and so it's like that's not necessarily the case with carbohydrate and fat this helps from the standpoint of um a a weight and fat loss perspective it doesn't have to be a a tough thing to to try to accomplish even I mean on the low end if you consume 1.6 grams per kilogram of body weight which is 0.7 grams per pound of body weight then you are at an adequate starting point and the last question I had is uh what about visceral fat are there any kinds of foods that promote the storage of visceral fat and are there foods that people can eat to avoid getting that yeah man that is a great question and researchers have been fighting over the answer to this question for a really long time okay so the overarching answer that covers a lot of things is that if you're losing fat um or if you're getting lean there's really no concern about visceral fat because if you're losing overall fat then visceral fat is diminishing as well it's not like that's gonna hold steady you know principle number two is that visceral fat is mainly a concern for people who are who are gaining fat and um there's actually a study by rosquist and colleagues where they compared what types of dietary fat most influence visceral fat they compare to polyunsaturated fat source with a saturated fat Source it was a hyper caloric experiment which nutrition plan but now let's talk what exercise as Lane mentioned earlier exercise can burn off that dangerous visceral fat even if you don't lose any weight but the right type of exercise can also people are trying to lose belly fat but they automatically think that they have to do a bunch of cardio but how about resistance training like how important is lifting weights for someone who's help when trying to lose belly fat the reality is you don't need cardio in order to lose fat or to lose belly fat but cardio can be a helpful thing and one of the reasons for that is energy expenditure has a tendency to go down during a fat loss phase so of course there will be some reduction normally in resting metabolic rate but non-exercise activity thermogenesis is another really key thing that can change during a fat loss phase so non-exercise activity is basically everything that exists between resting and doing structured exercise so walking to the mailbox walking around at your work or your school um you know anything that fits between those two extremes of exercising on purpose office and uh you know just kind of totally resting It's usually the second biggest contributor to Total daily energy expenditure for most people and so unfortunately when we diet a lot of people notice their non-exercise activity thermogenesis goes down pretty significantly uh so cardio can be a really helpful thing in keeping your expenditure higher when that non-exercise activity starts to go down over time so you're just trying to kind of keep things steady by adding some cardio to the mix for some people it's even just purely behavioral we might just say hey use the stairs instead of the elevator and park at the back of the parking lot instead of the front so everything that that gets you moving counts but even with proper nutrition that exercise a recent 2022 study found there's an often overlooked variable that can still prevent you from losing belly fat to explain this study is exercise science professor and body composition researcher Bill Campbell that this new study was very unique in that it was the first ever investigation to assess a lack of sleep and how it affects where body fat is stored they took 12 healthy males and females who on average slept about seven and a half hours per night they had these subjects live in a research sleep lab and then place them into two different sleep conditions the first condition was a sleep restricted condition where they were allowed to sleep only four hours per night the other condition was a normal sleep condition where they were allowed to sleep nine hours per night and during this entire process they were allowed to eat as much and whatever food they wanted to eat so after two weeks in each condition here's what happened the Sleep restricted subjects on average consumed 300 more calories per day and they gained about a pound of body weight when compared to the subjects when they were in the normal sleep stage but here's where things get really interesting the subjects that were sleep restricted they gained eight percent more subcutaneous body fat and then the normal sleep condition they only gained about four percent the other part of our bellies that stores fat is called the visceral region or visceral body fat and that's the dangerous body fat because that's associated with a lot of adverse Health outcomes the Sleep restricted condition caused an increase in 11 of this visceral body fat and the normal sleep condition they didn't gain any now again we would expect they had they ate more calories they gained a little bit more body weight so we would expect a little bit of a gain in body fat but not nearly to the extent that we saw as it was localized to the belly region to the abdominal region so this study suggests that there may be a link to sleep restriction leading to overeating which causes a gain in body fat that is preferentially stored in the belly region so my takeaway from this is to make sure that you prioritize sleep I would suggest that you get about seven hours per night and that you do not Overlook the importance of this now I know some of you might be thinking okay well the subjects were overeating what about if I'm still in a calorie deficit this sleep still matter as much and that's a valid question and a 2010 study actually tested this researchers put two groups of subjects on a weight loss diet with the same amount of calories the only difference was one group slept eight and a half hours per night while the other group slept only five and a half hours per night the result both groups lost a similar amount of total weight both groups also did lose some muscle because they weren't lifting weights but the well-slapped group lost 1.6 times less muscle and lost 2.3 times more fat than the Sleep restricted group suggesting that a lack of sleep alone may in fact lead to more muscle loss and less fat loss during a diet so you've now got all the tools you need to lose belly fat but there's one more thing you need to add to your plant failure to do this is why so many people start out strong yet
