Tending to Students
When people ask what I do I tell them I teach. I’m a professor at a local liberal arts college - a small, historic school that is rooted in tradition, academic rigor, and commitment to excellence. I teach a range of students, from freshmen who have just stepped foot on campus, to guiding seniors through research projects. I go where I’m needed, I meet students where they are.

First Born
My sister is three years older than me. She was the long anticipated, and much adored first child. My parents desperately wanted children, if only because it was what you were "supposed" to do. My mother’s basement is still full of photo collages and framed images marking every milestone. Though they had a modest income, the Sears Picture Studio was always an option to document Anne’s growth. They still talk about the activities they did, the walks to the park and library, the way Anne learned to read long before Kindergarten, and sending her to school early because she was ready a year early. They talk of all of her achievements and accomplishments, of the better days that were before siblings were born.

Love in the Time of Quarantine
My husband and I have been in that hard part of marriage and parenthood for the last five years. Our son, J, is five. He is Autistic and speech delayed. He started Kindergarten in the Fall, and so our days are filled with a full day of class for him, PT, OT, and Speech before school, and hours of ABA therapy after school.

Better Intentions
A mantra is a word or short phrase that is repeated throughout the day, usually to encourage bringing something good into being. I have known those to repeat "love" or "peace" over and over to themselves to encourage these ideas to manifest in their daily lives.
