The "Meh" Generation
Ever since I was old enough to start working and buying my own video games, I've stood at the forefront of each new console generation. From the original Playstation to the PS4, I've been so excited for each new generation of hardware that I would make it a point of getting at least one of the new machines within a year of launch. In fact, the year the PS4 and Xbox One launched, Ally & I got both of them. Aside from the red rings from the initial run of Xbox 360's, I haven't regretted jumping onboard for new consoles immediately.

'Saw' - Want To Play A... Couple Of Games?
Hi, and welcome back to Second Chances where I drag the maligned and forgotten off the torture racks. Those who have been following my work here for the past five years know that I love horror, both games and movies. Followers also know that I can give even games based on movies the benefit of the doubt. That's what I did when I gave a try to the two games based on the Saw franchise, and I was pleasantly surprised. They may not be up to the level of Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay or Alien Trilogy, but they're certainly better than most licensed garbage.

The Completely Arbitrary BTS Awards!
Hi, and welcome back to Silver Linings where I'm closing out a terrible year with seven rays of sunshine. 2021 was almost as bad a year as 2020 was. With additional COVID variants, political upheaval, and economies that are anything but stable, it's easy to feel the need to dive under the covers and hope it all goes away. However, unlike last year where I felt the need to vent at terrible movies and video games just to regain some level of sanity, this year I was able to keep my head by listening to the seven guys that flat-out define K-Pop.

Dear Diary, I Guess Death Can Restore Life
28 Nov. 2021 Dear Diary, I know it's been about thirty years since I last wrote in one, but I just had to get some thoughts out on what turned out to be a very painful year. I know the year isn't over yet. As I write this, there is still one more month to provide further agony. However, as December is looking to be extra chaotic due largely to what I'm going to talk about, I feel I should get this out now.

'Karate Kid 3' - Can a Villain Save a Movie?
Hi, and welcome back to Second Chances where the maligned, forgotten & ignored fight another round. Those who've kept up with my work on Vocal know that I absolutely love The Karate Kid from 1984. It would be my favorite movie of all time if the original RoboCop didn't exist. I've also been a huge fan of the Netflix series Cobra Kai since the time it debuted on YouTube. I even mentioned that I actually enjoyed the remake with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan, though it should've been called The Kung Fu Kid for the sake of accuracy. However, I haven't talked much about the sequel films aside from deriding the absolutely awful The Next Karate Kid last Christmas. Time to rectify that.

Hopeful Glow
This piece is a bit different from the short fiction I had written before. I am going to describe a dream that I had a few nights ago in as much detail as I can remember. Before I do so, I feel some real-world context is required. I normally do not talk about my personal life, but I feel it necessary in this case to establish what brought up this dream. See, I have been fighting mental exhaustion for the past month. My significant other Ally (whom I have mentioned multiple times in the past) had to leave her job, partly due to mental burnout and partly to care for her ailing mother. (No, it is not COVID.) With that lost income, I have been scrambling to keep the house's finances in control. Fortunately, we are breaking even but only just. I have been trying to find new sources of income since then, but my desperation had increased as the reserve savings decreased. Ally kept trying to tell me that things will work themselves out, but my conscious mind did not want to process that. I guess my unconscious mind had to take over one night...

Crack
“Dammit!” Victor slammed his head against the keys on his typewriter, breathing heavily. He looked up to see a jumbled mess of letters on the otherwise clean sheet of paper. Groaning with irritation, he got up out of the chair to which he confined himself for the past two hours and stepped out the front door.
