One Work: Klimt. Top Story - July 2026.
Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I (also called The Lady in Gold or The Woman in Gold ) is an oil painting on canvas, with gold leaf, by Gustav Klimt, completed between 1903 and 1907. The portrait was commissioned by the sitter's husband, Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer, a Viennese and Jewish banker and sugar producer. The painting was stolen by the Nazis in 1941, and displayed at the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere. The portrait is the final and most fully representative work of Klimt's golden phase. It was the first of two depictions of Adele by Klimt—the second was completed in 1912; these were two of several works by the artist that the Bloch-Bauer family owned." Wikipedia

One Work: Pirosmani by Picasso
I've been trying to find a way to write about Picasso's sketch of Pirosmani as a separate piece and Paul gave it to me by publishing a piece on Guernica. So, the connection for Raymond Taylor's great challenge is from Picasso's horror of the war to his somewhat chaotic awe of a fellow genius artist he never met in person and learned about very late in life, several months before his own death.

The Maestro of Philippopolis
The Maestro of Philippopolis Todor Valchev- Life in Four Strings Introduction Few musicians embody the artistic identity of a city as completely as Todor Valchev embodied that of Plovdiv, the ancient Philippopolis. His life was not merely a succession of concerts, orchestras, and professional appointments, but a continuous devotion to chamber music as a way of thinking, creating, and preserving cultural memory. Throughout more than seven decades of artistic activity, Valchev remained faithful to the ideals of musical excellence, collegiality, and artistic integrity, carrying the traditions of Bulgarian string performance far beyond national borders while never abandoning his attachment to his native city.

This is Laura Knight. Top Story - April 2025.
Today, I have rediscovered an art treasure I thought I had lost. And on my own doorstep. Foolishly, when I saw it in the Queer British Art exhibition in 2017, I didn't check where the painting was located. It is ironic, then, that despite several visits to the National Portrait Gallery in London over the past year, I had not seen the gallery where this sumptuous painting hangs in pride of place. Not until today, April 21, 2025.

An In-Depth Exploration of Journey to the Center of the Earth
Few adventure novels have captured the imagination of readers as powerfully as Journey to the Center of the Earth. Written by Jules Verne and first published in 1864, this groundbreaking work blends science, adventure, and fantasy into a thrilling tale of exploration beneath the Earth’s surface. As one of the earliest works of modern science fiction, the novel not only reflects the scientific curiosity of the 19th century but also demonstrates Verne’s extraordinary ability to transform speculative science into gripping storytelling.
