The Samsung Galaxy S23 series, including the impressive Galaxy S23 Ultra, is currently regarded as some of the finest Android phones in the market. However, it's natural to be curious about what lies ahead. Samsung recently unveiled two new foldable phones, and among them is the massive Galaxy Z Fold 5. For those uninterested in foldables, the Galaxy S24 series is Samsung's upcoming flagship lineup, slated for release early next year.

Let's delve into what you need to know about the Galaxy S24 series.

SUMMARY

The Samsung Galaxy S24 series is scheduled for release in the usual late January or early February timeframe next year.

The Galaxy S24 is expected to be equipped with the yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. It will likely feature 8GB to 12GB of RAM and various storage options. However, it's worth noting that not all regions or models may incorporate this chipset, as Samsung is considering a return to Exynos.

The phone series will launch with the new One UI 6 or 6.1, built on top of Android 14. Expect redesigned emoji and a fresh quick settings menu.

Samsung Galaxy S24: Design and Specs

While there isn't much information available about the design of the Galaxy S24, it's unlikely to deviate radically from the company's previous offerings in the past few years. Samsung has streamlined its design language across its phone lineup, including lower-end models like the Galaxy A14. While a revolutionary new design for 2024 seems improbable, it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

There is a rumor circulating that Samsung might exclude the Galaxy S24+ from its lineup, leaving only the smaller entry-level Galaxy S24 and the productivity-focused Galaxy S24 Ultra. Since the Galaxy S10, the company has consistently released a trio of smartphones each year, with the Plus model dating back to the Galaxy S8. It's not without some rationale, as the Galaxy S23+ and S23 Ultra are quite similar, and eliminating the cheaper of the two could push consumers to opt for higher-priced smartphones.

Nevertheless, we would be surprised if this rumor proves true, and we're not the only ones skeptical. Roland Quandt from WinFuture immediately cast doubt on the report, suggesting that the absence of internal codeword data should not be taken as a conclusive sign, particularly since this leak emerged prior to the launch of the S23. It's still early days for these rumors, and we'll have to wait a while longer for insights into Samsung's plans for next year's lineup.

Here's something that seems more plausible: Samsung appears to be ready to bid farewell to curved screens. In recent years, the company reduced the curvature on its flagship phablets and even equipped non-Ultra devices with flat panels. Now, it appears that the Galaxy S24 will receive the same treatment. While leaker Ice Universe mentioned that the device will retain its curved sides, the screen itself is rumored to be completely flat.

Ice Universe reaffirmed this rumor in a subsequent tweet, specifying that the Galaxy S24 Ultra's flat panel will measure approximately 6.8 inches with a resolution of 1440p. Notably, compared to this year's Galaxy S23 Ultra, the peak brightness is expected to increase significantly from 1,750 nits to 2,500 nits. Combine these flat screen speculations with the possibility of a titanium frame that reduces the S24 Ultra's weight to only 233g, and it suggests a considerable improvement over this year's phone.

But what about the other devices? Samsung is giving attention to the Galaxy S24+ this year and making significant display upgrades. Both the S24 and S24+ will feature slightly larger screens compared to their respective predecessors, with the S24+ making the jump to QHD resolution. This will result in an even more pixel-dense screen than the S24 Ultra.

As for the specifications, it's relatively safe to assume that the Galaxy S24 in the United States and globally will be powered by the yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. Last year, the two companies collaborated to create a customized variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for the Galaxy S23, and it's unlikely that this partnership will cease. Additionally, expect these phones to come with 8GB to 12GB of RAM and varying storage options, potentially reaching up to 2TB on the Ultra model. Overall, they will be another iteration of modern smartphones.

However, there has been intense debate in recent weeks about Samsung's plan for powering these devices in Europe. There have been reports suggesting that Samsung might revert to using Exynos chips in certain markets as early as next year. This follows earlier rumors about the company's intention to shift back to in-house CPUs by 2027, although Samsung has denied such claims. Such a move could be controversial, considering the success of the Qualcomm-based Galaxy S23, which likely explains the conflicting rumors.
