Is Writing My Future? . Top Story - November 2023.
I write because I honestly can’t draw what I see in my head. No, but really, why do I write? Why do I waste time sitting in front of blank screens and empty pieces of paper, the pristine white taunting me, pushing me away, telling me not to come back unless I actually have a good idea?

Poetry? But Why?
Introduction These are just my own thoughts on poetry, they are not right, wrong, or definitive and you may completely disagree with me. These thoughts may be repetitions of things I have already shared on Vocal and are mainly about how I feel and execute my poetry.

The Celestial Lyre: Alaric's Harmonic Odyssey
Veilwood remained as an embroidery of murmurs in the core of an old timberland — a domain where the progression of time wove an ensemble of neglected reverberations. At the focal point of this spiritualist territory rose the Stronghold of Forever, an excellent landmark that gleamed with an ethereal iridescence. Inside its blessed corridors lived Alaric, a youthful student whose eyes held the insight of ages, drawn powerfully toward unwinding the cryptic orchestra of time.

WINNERS! – Grocery List Challenge
When I started this challenge, I was not expecting as many entries as I got. Why? I worried it was too restrictive, perhaps off-putting. After all, my goal for setting this up was to encourage minimalism. A grocery-list (or shopping-list) poem seems easy at first glance, but when you sit down to start, it quickly becomes clear there is a narrow path forward. How can just a few items imply a whole story, emotional depth and complexity, get to the heart of daily life?

Living outside of the Philadelphia area for most of my life, I’ve seen my fair share of slang words enter and leave the fray. Some of them are amusing, some of them are useful, and some are outright pointless and forgettable. But it never really occured to me that there might actually be ways of truly assessing a slang word’s value. There are standards that linguists and philologists use to measure what a new word or phrase provides.

Is Language an Economy or a Tapestry?
For much of my time as a writer, I’ve been torn between two camps. Since middle school, my father instilled in me an appreciation for words and each of their distinct meanings. For any given idea, there are a million ways to express it. To include every possible permutation of polysyllabic phrases, proverbs and platitudes, we begin to enter into delightful verbal infinities.

The Land of 'Fire and Ice'.
Iceland, aptly named 'the land of fire and ice', is one of the most striking places on our planet. This frozen landscape is set right on top of a volcanic melting pot, which is evident in the fountains of scalding water and explosions of molten lava that escapes the crust. The end result is a landscape of stark and fiery beauty.
