In terms of appearance, the car adopts the "Scandinavian" design philosophy, with a closed center mesh design and highly recognizable "Thor's Hammer" headlights, continuing Volvo's family design language and giving it a relatively more distinctive and independent appearance than the fuel version. The car's sidelines are tight and clean.

The sidelines of the car are tight and capable, and the wide C-pillar design gives the vehicle a sense of heft from the visual effect. The engraved word "RECHARGE" on the C-pillar and the charging port under the left C-pillar reveal the true identity of the car.

The rear design remains the same as the fuel version, with the L-shaped taillights still displayed vertically on both sides of the rear in line with the body contour. According to the official statement, the new car will be available in eight body colors, including the new Sage Green metallic paint. At the same time, the new car will also provide 19-inch and 20-inch wheels for consumers to choose from.

The interior of the Volvo XC40 Pure Electric Edition follows the design of the fuel version, with a minimalist center control layout that looks both upscale and technological. In terms of details, the new car in the door trim, three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, air conditioning vents, and the physical buttons below the center screen are added chrome elements for the right embellishment, the interior texture is quite effective to enhance.

The car is also equipped with Android Automotive OS developed based on the Google Android Auto system, including Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play Store, which makes the vehicle center console become like a smartphone logic, meeting the current consumer demand for car computers. The system can also be connected to Volvo On Call, Volvo's digital connectivity service platform, which allows future owners of Volvo's plug-in hybrid models to check the time spent driving in pure electric mode.

Because of the reduction of the internal combustion engine, the XC40 Pure Electric Edition adds a front trunk with a capacity of about 30 liters to enhance the loading space inside the car. In addition, the new car has additional ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) sensors in the center grid. The system will consist of multiple radars, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors, with technology developed by Zenuity, a joint venture owned by Volvo and Veoneer.

Based on Volvo's Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), the XC40 Pure Electric also features special safety features for the electric model, such as a battery mounted under the vehicle floor, a safety cage, and a cushioned energy-absorbing zone with a creased design to ensure the battery is protected from damage in the event of a collision; and for the front and rear of the XC40 Pure Electric's cockpit. Volvo has also made targeted enhancements to the front and rear of the XC40's cockpit.
