In June 2023, the Indian car market is getting ready to welcome several new car models. These models cater to different preferences, ranging from high-performance cars like the rear-wheel drive BMW M2, to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, which is capable of off-road driving, and the convertible Mercedes SL55. Let's take a closer look at all the car launches scheduled for this month.

The highly anticipated Maruti Suzuki Jimny will finally be launched in India on June 7. Since the bookings started in January 2023, the SUV has already received 30,000 bookings. According to sources, an equal number of bookings have been made for both the manual and automatic variants.

The Jimny is equipped with a 1.5-liter petrol engine that generates 105 horsepower and 134 Newton-meters of torque. Buyers can choose between a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic transmission. All Jimny models will have a 4x4 capability. Unlike the Mahindra Thar, Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that there won't be a basic 4x2 version available.

On June 22, the Mercedes-AMG SL55 will make its debut in the Indian market, marking the comeback of the iconic SL roadster after more than a decade. The last version available in India was the 5th generation SL back in 2012. Interestingly, Mercedes has decided to reintroduce the SL as the SL55 instead of the globally available SL63.

Mercedes claims that the SL55 will be powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, delivering an impressive 469 horsepower and 700 Newton-meters of torque. Paired with a nine-speed torque-converter gearbox, this powerful combination will enable the SL55 to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.9 seconds.

The SL55 comes with 4-wheel drive and is equipped with 4-wheel steering, making it easier to maneuver in traffic despite its length of 4.7 meters. It's worth noting that this car can accommodate four passengers and features a fabric roof, which is claimed to be 21 kilograms lighter than the metal roof used in previous generations.

According to the news a hybrid version of the SL is currently being developed. Considering the recent launch of the hybrid GT 63 S E Performance in India, it is possible that the Hybrid SL may arrive in the future. However, for now, only the SL55 will be available in the Indian market.

Honda Elevate Global Debut on June 6th

The Honda Elevate, a new SUV from Honda, will have its global debut in India on June 6. Although the exact prices will be announced later in August, the SUV will share the same platform as the current generation Honda City. This means that it will feature the same 1.5-liter engine and will be available with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT.

The Elevate will be Honda's first SUV in India since the discontinuation of the CR-V due to BS6 regulations. While it won't have a diesel engine option, there are plans to introduce a hybrid system from the City in the future. The Elevate will compete with models like the Creta, Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder. It's worth noting that the Elevate lacks a panoramic sunroof, which is available in its rival models.

Volkswagen Virtus 1.5 TSI Manual

With some exciting updates, Volkswagen has introduced a new version of its popular sedan, the Virtus. The Virtus is well-known for its excellent performance and high-quality build. To make the Virtus lineup even more appealing, Volkswagen has made some changes. Previously, the Virtus powered by the 1.5 TSI engine was only available with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. However, Volkswagen has now announced that they will be launching a variant with a 6-speed manual gearbox in June.

In addition to the new manual gearbox option, the GT lineup of the Virtus will also offer new colors like 'Deep Black Pearl' and 'Lava Blue'. These updates come just in time for the first anniversary of the Virtus launch in India in June 2023. It's worth noting that Hyundai recently launched the new Verna with a 160hp engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. By introducing a manual gearbox option, Volkswagen aims to make the Virtus GT more affordable compared to the DSG model. This move is expected to attract more customers and boost sales for the Virtus.
