Tell us the truth – doesn’t the very name of Amazon give you visions of something mighty and mysterious? No matter how much you travel, the deep doesn’t end; in fact, it keeps growing. Tall and wide trees, thick undergrowth, mystic calls of birds and animals, the mid-tones of cicadas, that dense humidity, and tiny you amid its vastness. But as fascinating as this jungle seems, the Amazon jungle is not your typical tourist destination. However, some people are apprehensive about traveling to the Amazon jungle due to safety concerns. And why not? Life is precious, no matter yours or other’s. So, if the thought of traveling to the dense Amazon has kissed your mind, be ready for it. But before this, read on these safety tips to avoid any mishap.

How safe is the Amazon jungle?

Today, even walking into a strange city poses threats to our life. We do not know the paths, the people, the culture, and the politics involved. And know that these are cities, tiny in size and horror. And then comes the jungles like Amazon, about which not much we know. The Amazon rainforest is the largest rainforest in the world. It spans over 6.7 million square kilometers and passes through over 8 countries. So, in a way, it is a strange yet beautiful horror that you might want to learn about before stepping into it.

Wildlife: Amazon is home to a big number of plants and animal species. To keep it in simple terms, it gives shelter to over 10% of all known animal species on planet Earth. It is also home to some of the deadliest creatures on the planet. But don’t be scared much; these animals usually stay deep in the jungle and rarely come to the well-trodden paths. So, before you enter, seek some guidance from the person who knows this beauty to its core. Also, know that animals rarely attack unless they feel threatened. So, have a safe distance between your life and their life.

Insects: Now, this is something that most people ignore. Know that although insects are tiny creatures, they most the highest risk to those who travel. You may easily contract insect-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue, yellow fever, etc. This is the second-last thing you might want to get ended with (the first being under the jaws of a deadly animal). But fear not my friend. A bit of safety and you are all good to sense the beauty of the Amazon without sensing that feverish spell. Have an antimalarial medication, insect repellent, and long-sleeved clothing on your list. Also, just simply avoid walking in the dense foliage, no matter how tempting it seems. Most insects congregate there to protest against humans.

Culture: Don’t think that Amazon harbors animals and plants alone. Humans have been taking shelter in its wilderness for thousands of years (or maybe million). Traveling to the Amazon jungle means you will be exposed to a different culture and way of life. Please be respectful of the local customs and traditions. Understand that some of the practices may seem unusual or unfamiliar to you. However, this is part of the experience, and embracing the differences can be a rewarding and enriching experience.

Tips for Safe Travels in the Amazon Jungle:

  • • Don’t you skip on the research. Scan about your destination thoroughly before you go, including the climate, terrain, and wildlife you may encounter.
  • • Seek guidance from experienced guides who know the area well.
  • • Take preventative measures to protect yourself from insect-borne diseases.
  • • Be respectful of the local customs and traditions and be open to learning about new cultures.
  • • Stay on the well-trodden paths and avoid dense foliage where insects and wildlife tend to congregate.
  • • Also, have proper travel accessories and items. Make a list and check out an alternative to eBay for travel, bags & luggage accessories helpful for traveling into wild areas.

True traveling experiences arrive when you leap that fence and experience what nature has to offer to us. Amazon is an excellent destination to consider. However, take care of these tips before you enter this bewildering beauty.
