This will make your holiday in Sardinia unforgettable!

Dreamlike Sardinia - Tips for a vacation in the Caribbean of Europe “Sardinia is the Caribbean of Europe. Look forward to turquoise water, hidden bays and lots of possibilities if you don't just want to spend your Sardinia vacation on the beach ”. At least that is the quote from friends who travel to Sardinia year after year. "Once you've been here, you'll always come back" - OK, classic repeat offenders.

Fortunately, in Sardinia it is forbidden to build hotels over several floors. Therefore there are no concrete bunkers and few expensive hotels by the sea. The solution? A holiday villas right by the sea with or without a pool, but with fantastic views and the beach often only a few meters away.

There are beautiful corners and accommodations around Alghero, Gallura, Costa Smeralda and Olbia. The Sinis Peninsula also has beautiful stalls. But we are concentrating on the south of Sardinia. We forego a round trip.

I can recommend you to book a holiday villa on Sardinia Villas agency . Customer service is very important here. If the boss is on site, he'll come by personally to greet you and reveal one or the other insider tip.

Either a house right by the sea in a beautiful bay ( I lived here ):

Or in a bay with a great view in Torre delle Stelle?

The sea in Sardinia is reminiscent of the Caribbean

Sardinia's beaches are reminiscent of the Caribbean. Long sandy beach meets hidden bays surrounded by jagged rocks. The water shines in turquoise colors from afar. Underwater you can enjoy a meter-wide view. That I only have to spend two hours on a plane for such beautiful places - I would not have believed it. No wonder that Sardinia's beaches are among the most beautiful in the world.

The bays in the north and east are mentioned again and again, but in the south-east I have found my personal paradise. The island is beautiful!

The coastal roads offer great views

When you arrive at the airport in Cagliari, the first highlight is already waiting for you: the old coastal road to Villasimius.

Again and again the rocks drop steeply into the sea and reveal beautiful bays and beaches. There are numerous bays along the road where you should stop to enjoy the view.

The food in Sardinia is world class!

I love italian food. But Sardinian cuisine offers much more than pasta and pizza: wafer-thin, crispy flatbread (Carta di musica - music paper) or suckling pig (Porcheddu). Only directly from the farmer, of course. Pay attention to the agriturismo signs.

The fresh fish, which you can get directly from the fishing cooperative in the port (Ittiturismo), is also very tasty. All fish and mussels that were caught during the day are served here. And that's not a little in Sardinia.

Another tradition is the bitter honey, which can be bought in the hinterland or at weekly markets (Villasimius).

Cheese fans cannot ignore a visit to the cheese dairy. You can buy “Pecorino Sardo” - typical Sardinian sheep cheese - straight from production. Here you can choose your favorites between different maturity levels and take them with you to Germany.

And ice cream fans will get their money's worth in Italy anyway. We stopped at ice cream parlors every day. An absolute must at temperatures above 32 degrees.

Sardinia is a destination for everyone

Regardless of whether you are an active vacationer, sun worshiper, luxury vacation or vacation with the family. Sardinia really offers something for everyone. From Luxury Villas Sardinia up to the simple apartments and budget homes even in the famous Costa Smeralda and Porto Cervo. Camping fans also chase their mobile homes along the narrow coastal roads to get to the next campsite. Road trip fans also get their money's worth, as the island is not too big but very varied.

Great hikes in the hinterland

If you have had enough of the beach or if the sun is not shining, then off to the nature parks and hiking areas of Sardinia. Over narrow serpentines it goes up into the mountains. Few tourists go on a hiking tour and enjoy the silence and breathe in the scent of pine, juniper and thyme.

I was at the Sette Fratelli (Seven Brothers) and explored the mountain on my own (ok we didn't find the path). The reward was a view as far as Cagliari.

At the forest office and information center "Sette Fratelli" there is a large map with marked hiking trails as well as information for hiking trails. You should visit this if, like us, you only have a small car with you, because some paths are only accessible via unpaved roads.

Conclusion

Sardinia is an expensive travel destination because many wanderlust-plagued people first think of the Costa Smeralda in the north. This is where high society is at home. But in many other (much nicer) places you can experience an affordable, if not cheap, vacation.

Before I went to Sardinia, I heard from friends who were spending a mid-four-figure sum on their annual vacation in Sardinia. Regularly - year after year.

But that's not my goal and I was sure before the trip that it would also be cheaper. I admit that this is not always easy. If you follow my tips you should also be able to spend a great holiday in Sardinia that doesn't break your budget.
