Are you thinking about moving to Australia? If so, you surely already know that Aussie culture is unique and quite complex. There are so many things to think about and the entire continent is attractive. The wildlife is special and the weather seems to always be great.

Australia is one of those countries where people have different experiences. This is possible because there is a little bit of something available for everyone, from those that want to go clubbing to those that want to enjoy beaches.

If you want to move to the country, congratulations. However, you still need to learn all that you can about the country since you need to be ready for the unique experience. With this in mind, here are some things that you should know before moving to Australia.

Australia Is Huge

Most people do not realize this but Australia is truly massive, measuring over 3 million square miles. This is practically the size of Europe. When you look at the map, you tend to think that the continent is smaller but this is not actually the case.

To put things into perspective, the distance between Ukraine and Portugal is actually less than between Sydney and Perth. In order to see the entire country, you need to invest a lot of time.

Australia’s Weather Is Varied

Most people believe that the weather in Australia is the same everywhere, usually sunny and very hot. This is incorrect. When the summer season is in the south, the north experiences its wet season. The tropical climate is in Brisbane and Melbourne can experience multiple seasons in a single day. It can snow all around the country so much that you can actually go skiing.

The Sun Is Very Strong

Australian sun really shines. Temperatures can easily be scorching during summer, going over 40 degrees Celsius. By the year 2040, it is expected that temperatures are easily going to constantly reach 50 degrees Celsius.

Sydney heat waves unfortunately killed many bats and animals. They led to bushfires and caused countless problems for people around the country. To make matters even worse, the ozone layer over Australia is thinner than in other parts of the world. This means the rays coming from the sun are much more damaging. The Aussie sun is simply very powerful.

Healthcare Is Great

In Australia, healthcare is free and offered through Medicare. It can be used if you are a permanent resident. In addition, there are agreements between Australia and various other countries, like New Zealand and the UK. This means that the temporary visitors also gain access to Medicare coverage.

Although Medicare is available, it is smart to consider additional coverage through private medical healthcare.

Ski Holidays In Australia Are Stunning

You rarely hear about skiing in Australia but there is an area that is known as the Australian Alps. There, snowfall is actually more intense than in Switzerland. Many of the ski locations that you want to consider are located in the Southeast.

You Have To Walk On The Left

A very quick Google search shows you that Australians drive on the left side of the road. What it does not show you is that people also walk on the left. This is different than in most countries in the sense that on the sidewalk, you are encouraged and taught to walk on the left, making foot traffic much faster and avoiding bumping into people.

You Are Fined For Jaywalking

You are not allowed to cross the road when you want to. If you are caught, you are going to be given a fine of 70 AUD. This not might seem like much but it can quickly add up if you come from a country where jaywalking is not actually published. All that you have to do in Australia is respect the designated crossing points, like pelican crossings and zebra crossing.
