The Concept of 'Time' Seems to be Different Here in Costa Rica. .

No deadlines. . nothing that really needs to be done on a timely basis. . a different approach to life. .

Alarm clocks and calendars. . both necessary items for most people in 2022. We are guided by seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years. Our future plans are laid out in a fashion that have been with all of us for hundreds of years! Even before the adjustable alarm clock was invented in 1847, we all still, as a society, relied on natural ways to plan our days, weeks and months ahead. Whether we measured time by the rising of the sun, the phases of the moon and / or the alignment of the stars and planets above, knowing where you were in the entire realm of life was so very important and necessary. Julius Caesar even used a calendar that guided him and the masses for many years.

And now, many of us have thankfully discovered the 'Pura Vida' Lifestyle and we have learned that Costa Rica has changed our theories about space and time. All of a sudden, we're guided once again by the sun, the moon, the howler monkeys and Mother Nature herself. No need for anything mechanical in our lives to guide us moment by moment! It's a relief, to be honest. . there is a welcome feeling of freedom and regaining control. Because the foundation of the 'Pura Vida' Lifestyle is that today is basically what matters most. Tomorrow never comes and nothing can be done about yesterday. . whether we screwed up or totally conquered that day before! So our existence here is based on sunrises and sunsets. Everything else is fit into a perfectly natural sequence of events. And this feels to us who have been here for a while. Admittingly, it is hard to get used to for some, but a welcomed relief for others.

Look back on your own life. . from the time that we are babies, we're guided by specific moments. When we're babies, time to feed. When we're toddlers, time to go to the babysitter. . when we're of school age, time to get up and go to class. It never stops. We graduate from college and we get a job. Time to get up! The alarms, bells and whistles work overtime. And now with the introduction of our smartphone and uploaded apps, we can be awakened by laser lights, vibrations, buzzes, animal sounds and soft music.

And then, we discover Costa Rica. Every reason that we used to need these measurements of time have disappeared!

Becoming an integral part of the 'Pura Vida' Lifestyle is a wonderful process. We learn so much about ourselves and about what is really important in life. Because when we're in a position to surrender ourselves to a way of life that will no doubt extend our time on this earth, make us healthier and will allow us to become the holders of our own destiny, then all that we've learned that we thought was necessary is now presented to us as a form of forced existence over which we had no control.

Nature guides all life on earth. This is evident when we're at the beach. . there's high tide and low tide. The strength of the waves cycle through the day. It is a natural process. The sunrises and sunsets have profound effects on all living creatures. Certain jungle animals take the sunset as a guide to get up and hunt. Others begin their journey when the sun meets the horizon. For us, a sunrise denotes the beginning of a new day, fresh, free and clear of all encumbrances. The sunset gives us time to reflect and review what we have just experienced in the hours leading up to coming darkness.

Go with the flow. . allow whatever happens to happen and find that life is more manageable with this attitude. Give up some of the control that you put onto yourself and life will become magical for you and for those who you love!
