Better Days
It’s Autumn here in my new isolation home. Pick me a blue sky, clean waves kind-of morning. I’ll wake early to smile at the sunrise through glass-paned doors, a stretch of orange lounging across the rooftops of my neighbours. So, if the sky says it’s okay to be sleep… I’ll close my eyes for ten minutes more. Then I’ll turn to the person next to me and smile bigger again. It’s the guy who used to be a stranger: we met by chance, then met again; I came to stay for a week, and I haven’t left yet. I’ve said to myself I haven’t been able to leave, but I know that’s not completely true. I could’ve chosen home – England, that is – when the last few flights were travelling across the world. But to sit at home wondering what might have happened, living in the past at a time in my life when the future is everything – that wasn’t to be my isolation.

How Australia has changed me
...Back from the chapter 1!: --------------------------------- My last memory of Melbourne was a bit gloomy, sad, mixed with a sense of defeat. On a late afternoon, near the end of November 2014 I was loading my stuff on a taxi that was taking me to the Tullamarine International Airport: my parents got me a last-minute flight back home. 'Damn it'-I repeat in my head- 'What could have possibly gone wrong?- I was so pissed off! And with no desire to go back to Italy, not even a remote one. Anyway, the next day I woke up in Rome once again, in my bed surrounded by things I was trying to take a break from, perhaps, run away from. (not to be harsh, but my emotions were pretty tangled and tense at that time). To be clear, I never had any resentment or hate towards my family whatsoever. It was just that the feeling of stretching myself beyond my current life, trying something new was loud and pulsing.

From Tasmania, With Love
On the 7th of August 1998, my life was changed irrevocably. Well, alright: in truth, it was my parents' lives that were changed irrevocably. Because on that cold August Friday, almost twenty-two years ago now, I popped into the world. So while it isn't an exaggeration to say that it was a fairly significant milestone for me, I feel as though dear old Mum and Dad probably registered the shift in a somewhat more immediate sense.
