Circular Quay is a popular waterfront recreational hub in Sydney, and no tour of Sydney would be complete without spending a few hours here. Surrounded by some of the city's top attractions and finest restaurants and shops, this bustling area is a great spot to wine and dine and go sightseeing in Sydney. From exploring the area's best-loved attractions to enjoying what's on offer, here are some tips on how to explore Circular Quay during a trip to Sydney.

1. Stay Close to the Quay

Circular Quay is ranked among Sydney's main tourist hotspots. Discovering all that the Circular Quay has to offer will require both time and planning. Those who wish to experience the area in all its splendour would benefit from staying at hotels in Circular Quay whether it's the Oaks Sydney North Ryde Suites or any similar accommodation hub in the area. Staying near or within walking distance of the quay means that tourists not only have easy access to this recreational and cultural landmark but that they will also be afforded more time to explore lesser-known or hidden gems tucked away in this highly popular area.

2. Tour the Cultural Attractions

Circular Quay is home to some of the city's most famous cultural points of interest and no trip to the area would be complete without exploring the historic attractions nestled in between restaurants and shopping complexes. The Custom House is one such landmark that is considered a Victorian Georgian heritage structure that once served as a state office but is now home to the City of Sydney Library. Walking around the ground floor of the building and gazing upon the scaled model of the city's downtown area is one of the best things to do on a tour of the Customs House. Literary fans can also sign up to join the Writer's Walk, which takes once across a series of metal plaques celebrating some of Australia's finest authors.

3. Hit the Museums

Sydney's top museums are also located within the Circular Quay and travellers can start their museum tour of the area with a stopover at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. Occupying pride of place in West Circular Quay, the venue showcases sculptures, prints, and contemporary art exhibitions by some of the country's and the world's leading artists. The Rocks Discovery Museum, on the other hand, is a free museum that explores the history of The Rocks while the Justice and Police Museum is a fascinating look inside the world of law enforcement. Housed in a former police station, the locale offers a guided tour of its courtrooms, forensic labs, and cells.

4. Dig into Local Treats

Wining and dining in Circular Quay is a frequent habit among Sydney residents due to the sheer variety of restaurants and cafes lining this area of the city. Those with a love of fresh seafood will find this waterfront dining Mecca the perfect location to dig into some local delicacies. Head down to the Searock Grill for a classic Searock Platter, which features prawns, chilled mussels, and a collection of other seafood items grilled to perfection. Other dining venues in the area include Yuki’s at the Quay, which is a Japanese restaurant, and the fine dining Aria Restaurant Sydney.

5. Shop till You Drop

Shopaholics touring Circular Quay will find a number of boutiques and shops including Masterpiece Jewellery and T Galleria By DFS where tourists can stock up on everything from fine wines and gourmet chocolates to clothes and accessories. The Rocks Market is a spectacular artisan market held on Saturday and Sunday with stalls selling handmade goods, artwork, woodwork and ceramics. The market also features street performers and craft demo workshops.
